View Full Version : Yellow anaconda?

We have an outside chance of adopting a yellow anaconda (or a pair)!
Over the weekend we were talking to the keeper at a reputable attraction (in the UK) that have a beautiful breeding pair of yellow anacondas and, well, they bred big time! 30+ of them!
Of course, they are looking for homes in zoos etc., but there may be a chance of an adoption...so I guess I'm asking for opinions and advice.
The keeper has had no behaviour problems (they've had the female for 14 years). What are other people's experiences?
Don't worr, we're not stupid! We have a number of snakes including an adult BCI - the last few were rescues - and are big on giving snakes their needs.
I've seen the thread that quoted 6*6*6 for an enclosure and they'll need a lot of water.
Does anyone keep them out there? How big can they really get? (The female yellow was, maybe, 12ft)
Any input would be appreciated!
:)
yellow anacondas can be hard to get feeding but once they do theres no stopping them. Males will generaly stay at 7-8 feet females 11-13 feet. They have a Very strong bite but can be tamed down with lots of handling and a few bites. I've noticed that they can get mean again as adults,so allways be aware and have two or more people with you. A water bowl is all you need and much easyer than a big tub. as long as the humidity is good the water bowl is fine. spray the cage dow once a day is fine.
I don't know what more to say but good luck

I have a female yellow anaconda. So far my experiece with her has been great. She has only bitten me once and tried to another time. I handle her everyday for atleast fifteen minutes and she has calmed down significantly. I haven't had any problem with her eating. I have been feeding her f/t rat pups every week, and she has never refused food. I do keep humidty up around 60% in her enclosure and temp. gradient form 88-90 degrees on the warm side and 81-83 degrees on the cool side. I use a big water dish that she soaks in almost every day. If you are able to get one I would highly recommend it. They are very bueatiful and mine has been a joy.

IHS was last week in Houston, TX. I don't think they've announced next year's location yet - but I heard someone was trying to get it to coincide with Daytona.

Sorry guys, not been able to log on for a few days.
Fateaber, the IHS show is due at the 28th September and is likely to be around South Yorkshire somewhere. Think you need to be an IHS member to get in though - see the thred posted by XxRachxX. (search on threds containing 28th august).
Looking forward to it - they were said to be posting the venue about 10 days before the event. My bet's on the arena. :)
