I've kept a corn for a while (babysitting). He was very tame, fine to handle. I kept him on papertowel (newspaper is fine too), with a heatpad for heat, a rock, a big piece of wood, a hidebox (and upside down plantpot with a hole in the side) and a water dish.
He was a great eater, and corns (well, all snakes) can easily handle huge prey.

Very neat little snakes, what colour morph are you getting?

Awesome snakes, I had 4 but I sold them, now I have two bubble gum rat snakes. I keep most of my snakes at room temp. which is about 80 degrees (my climate is great for snake keeping)
then use either a UTH, or a heat light during our winter, unless I plan on breeding (or try at it) then I'll let brumation occur naturally, the room I keep them in get's cooler during the colder months.

Hi Iceman,

Corn snakes are great snakes and perfect to start off with. I myself have 4 and love em to death :) They are a bit quicker when handling but aren't aggressive at all, except when it's diner time!

I have gotten all of my corns from Magazoo and recommend them as a herp shop in Montreal. It's pretty much the only shop that I buy from.

Pet store I manage has a corn snake sale, $45.00 each and 3 are 3 feet in length, the others are a little smaller all are eating great!! We've sold adult red rats for $20 bucks. I know this doesn't help you does it?? (location) but thought I'd throw in a price for you :)

The price depends on which color phase you get. The normals are 60 and the price goes up for different morphs.

They can be zippy when they're babies, depends on the individual snake. I've had mellow babies and zippy ones. As long as you're expecting it you shouldn't have any problems.

Agreed with Pixie. Corns are little brats as babies. They are like tiny whips with minds of their own...most flail around and whip around so much you think they will hurt themselves, I find it incrediable hard to handle my hatchlings because I have long nails....picking them up takes me forever! LOL.

But thats another good point about corns. I hardly ever hold my baby corns until they are a few months older. Its just easier on me, easier on them, helps them get on a regular eating schedual too I find. But even though they get little to no handling during this time, all my adults have turned out to be quite personable and tame down easily and fast when I do start handling them regularly.

If you haven't already read it I recomend you get a copy of the corn snake manual. It has more then enough info.
Cheers,

I'd recommend corn snakes to anyone, experienced or novice. For finding the care info you need, just search for Corn Snake Care on google. There is an abundance of info out there. I'm a pretty experienced herper. I've been handling snakes my whole life, even though I've only been a snake owner for a short time, and I have 8 corns. They're just overall wonderful pets to have around.

crashzone - PLEASE tell me you don't literally mean Pine!!!! Did you not do any research before you got your corn??? PINE IS DEADLY TO SNAKES. It's not as deadly as cedar, but can still kill your corn. Get it OFF the pine and onto Aspen!

We keep our baby corn on newspaper........but it would probably be easier if it was on aspen, so you can spot clean ALOT easier. Feed large pinkies every 4 days.....

We use a heat pad that keeps the hot side 80-85 degree's and the cool side stays around 70-75 degree's. She is friendly enough, doesn't whip around as much as when we first got her. Very active, has not tried to bite....
