natural setup?

I want to make a natural varireum <-sp? but I dont know what plants I can use. I was thinking bonzi trees and a moss covering the soil but I need more ideas. also I'm not to sure about sepices that are compatable. I want to use red eyes but I want
something(s) terestrial too can I use arrow frogs with the red eyes? I dont want any standing water. any pictures of ones you have done whould be great.

NEVER mix 2 different species......there are way to many things that can go wrong...

1) Don't mix species.
2) Trees and red-eyes/any frogs don't really mix. At least not coniferous tress, which is what bonzais are made from. Stick with broad-leaved tropical housplants and ivy-type plants.

Sometimes you can find bonsai tropical plants (especially fig...benjamina).

Also coniferous trees probably couldnt live in the same environment needed to keep red eye's or darts...

well depends you can go all out and build custom waterfalls with them and evreything i made mine for about 60$ that included a water pump the materials to make the water fall and some wire for the false bottom or do you want something a litle bit less like just plants and that kinda thing and a good soil for the bottom is the expandable coconut soil i find it works the best


ps a bonus about the waterfalls it keeps humidity high and good plants can be ficus tree's pathos plants spider plants all types of palms dracena there is a list on a previous thread it has them all

To elaborate on krrc's last post, JeffT....DUH! Arrows need to eat the poisonous ants that are their natural diet in the wild to be poisonous to anything. Nice try.

krrc, you can house small Phelsuma (day gecko) species with tree frogs. Small Phelsuma species are commonly kept with larger Dendrobates (arrow frog) species in the master vivarium crafters of the world, namely Europe. Those with the most experience in vivarium design actually tend to keep mixed species as opposed to a few. Of course, as a rule of thumb, your vivarium must be close to the 100gal mark to house colonies of seperate species. You can keep 1.1 red eyes and 1.1 gold dust day geckos in a 50+ vivarium, but that is minimum.

You may also house some of the smaller Phelsuma species with some Rhampholean (pygmy chameleon) species. You may also house some Uroplatus (leaf tail gecko) with Phelsuma, as long as the sizes and sexes are compatable. Make sure to get only females if you are housing different species of geckos together, as males will obviously fight over territory.

As far as vivariums go, you must keep them HEAVILY planted with any plants you can find at Wal-Mart or your local plant nursuries. Ask the plant specialists which ones are better in high humidity and constantly wet soil.
