I am purchasing a blood python this coming month. I am deciding between a sumatran red blood python and a borneo blood python. Both females. I find them both very attractive. Do borneos and sumatrans differ in some way? Are their temperments different? Any help would be appreciated :D

P. brongersmai are the ones that can turn red as adults, they can also be yellow, orange and brown. They get bigger (about 6-7 feet for females) and are said to be more likely to be aggressive. P. breitensteini usually are brown and gray throughout their whole life. The females get about 5-6 feet. I keep both species and I find my brongersmai likes more humidity then the other one. My breitensteini is also more aggressive, but I think it just depends on the individual snake. Both species are very interesting, so you can't go wrong either way! But whatever you do, buy a CB!
Good luck!

I don't have any hands on with sumatrans except for what I have read about them. I have a borneo that is two years old now. He is one of my favorites. He has never refused a meal and is by far the most mellow snake I have owned. I think that sumatrans are awesome too and plan on getting one but I would highly recommend a borneo.

Bloods are typically larger than Borneos, though not always (<a href="http://www.proexotics.com/retail_products/Pythons/new_python/borneo_blood_big_3-22-02.jpg">click here</a> for a huge Borneo). Main differences are scale counts and colouration. Both Borneos and Bloods are sensitive temeperament-wise... very vocal animals, and can be quite variable. Neither of my borneos has tagged me (yet...), but you so much as walk past or open their enclosure and they are huffing, puffing, and blowing wind. They jsut like to complain. The most important factor in having a somewhat manageable blood/stp is to get a captive bred animal. Imports are what gave these snakes such a horrible reputation. Females will most likely reach the larger end of the spectrum as well so take that in to account. Never been bitten by an adult, hope never to, don't think I will be that lucky, but I have heard they inflict one of the most painful bites

thank you all for your comments. I have decided on a Borneo Short Tailed Python. I am getting a nice female from Ophiological Services, Inc. on the 20th of this month.
