View Full Version : Angolans?
Just saw angolan pythons in our latest copy of Reptiles and they look pretty cool. Does anyone work with these in Canada?

Good question! Also, might anyone know why the article mentioned them being easy to breed, as well as quite rare? Just wondering why they're rare if they're so easy...
My guess is that unlike ball pythons the angolans aren't as wide spread due to the fact that they aren't imported by the hundreds of thousands.

hahahaha, sorry I'm an idiot.......my feeble brain confused Bredl's with Angolan's........
On that note, I think it's nap time.
Just to avoid confusion angoans are Python anchietae.
Angola was in a very nasty war for a long time,
with lots of landmines ect... where most angolan pythons are from. Most that are in US colections are from
Namibia.

Yes, never fear, there will be Canadian Angolans.
Mardy's right though...the big problem is founder stock...Civil war there for years and ongoing..
They're easy to breed though...just Ball Pythons of a slightly different locale.
But I'm dead against hybridizing them
wait a year or two they will be around, In Canada.

Angolan pythons are mostly from central and northern Namibia. Their range in Angola is small and limited to the extreme southern part of the country.
Namibia has strict wildlife laws and export from there is illegal. As, Mardy said, Angola has been locked in a nasty civil war for many years, making export of these pythons almost non-existent. The war is supposedly over or at least subsiding, so angolan pythons will possibly become more readily available in the not too distant future.
Although still rare in collections, they are common throughout their range.
Casey Lazik from the U.S. is one name that comes to mind when thinking of one of the better known Angolan breeders. Look to pay $2500 each for a CB neonate.
They would make an interesting addition for someone who has that kind of expendable cash....$2500x2= $5000 US for a pair, that's $6925.48 canadian funds.....OUCH!!

They are here. Jon and I each have a pair and another pair is being imported shortly by a friend. They are incredible pythons. Not only are they hardy, but good feeders, and friendly. The coolest thing about them is the bead like texture to their scales. Here are some pics.

It's another different spp. sapphire moon. Nothing related with BP's. Just they share a similar head.
