Okay seeing as there is no correct anwser to the question "What makes the best first hot?" I want to know what you experianced hot keepers started with. What was your first hot?
Also if there are any hot keepers in the London On region contact me privately, if they are looking for an apprentice :) I would love to lern from an experianced keeper.
LOL Should that have gone in the wanted section of the classifieds.
Do False Water Cobras counts as Hots???? LoL
ok, If not then,
first species I owned myself: Southern Copperhead
Do False Water Cobras counts as Hots????
I would say they do, but they are supposed to be mild. Similar to Mangrove snakes. There is question to the reaction from the venom, of these snakes. I hear FWCs are highly agressive too.

I don't know if I would say aggressive... attentive is more the word. They have a pretty damn impressive feeding response... and thats a whole lot of snake to have come flying out of the cage the second the door is cracked. Their venom may not be considered deadly, and there isn't much info out there on it, but I wouldn't want to test the theory that they aren't dangerous. :)
My first rear-rang was a mangrove. My first "real" hot was a desert massasauga.

My first hot was a Crotalus horridus, but I had no mentor. I learned everything on my own as I went and keeping that as my first hot was one of the errors I made. I would suggest new keepers start with an Agkistrodon contortrix.

A. contortrix seems to be the best, but don't forget about pygmys either. They are my first and I think they are fairly easy to keep! A. contortrix is next on the list (come on columbia show...hurry up and get here!!)

Well my first hot was in the 10th grade , she was in the 11th grade. man this chick had a temper wourse than a pmsing gaboon viper. She would walk down the street and guys that looked would get a finger, god help you if you wistled at her she would just walk up and kick you in the butt. She had more venom in her mouth than a King Cobra. OH WAIT WAIT WAIT, we are talking about Hot Snakes. My Bad, sorry lol. Southern Pacific rattler certainly not the best first hot but hey I found it I kept it.
