Hey all

I have a 3ft glass viv for my 1 1/2ft bp. It has everything except a humidity thing which produced humidity, lol.

My snake is in shed at the moment so I decided to put in another water bowl, but this one is a lottle bigger than th othr one. I put it in last night and when I woke up this morning te glass on the tank was covered in condensation.

Is this to much condensation??? (dont forget the snake is in shed)

how big should the second water bowl be to make it more or less the right humidity???

My bp has shed now bit I wouls still like some help to find out how big a second water bowl should b the raise the humidity to where it should be.

So if anyone could help me I would b very thankful.

It sounds like you had the water bowl directly over (or under) a heat source, is this correct? That's how I increase humidity during shed time. Works wonders.

If you had condensation on the sides of the tank, this means the humidity was 100%. This is ok during shed time, other times it's overkill for a BP. (I think this would also disprove everyone's theory that you can't maintain humidity in a tank, too. :) ).

Putting a water bowl in by itself shouldn't increase the humidity alone unless there was a heat source to cause evaporation, so it's really hard to say what size the water bowl should be. Also, do you have a screen top on the tank?

It must be freezing in your house if your getting condensed water on the inside of the glass.

No one said you CAN'T maintain humidity in a tank.

But its WAY moer work, more fluctuations and more time when you have a collection that's more than 20 snakes. Its impossible to do it effectivly while ALSO getting proper ventilation and not have everything fluctuating all over the place. Not to mention tank ventilation bites. That's o.k. for a BP though. But aboreal species NEED high humidity and ventilation.

That's ALL anyone was saying. No need to prove or disprove. It's obvious after generations of tank use.

Just wanted to clear that up since I have never seen anyone say that tanks are impossible to put humidity into. Its just so obivous that is a pain the *** that no one recommends them for high humidity species

Invictus, The 2nd waterbwl (the big one) was over the heat mat, lol.
Well I have taken itout know since the snake has shed. I had tohelp the snake a lot with ins sheding though.

Well Marisa, it doesn't sound like maintaining humidity was a pain the arse, nor a lot of work for Alex here. In fact, Alex just proved what I've been trying to say for weeks now. If you have an abundant source of water either over top of or directly under a heat source, you will have an abundance of humidity that you don't NEED to control. And since it was a tank, it was most likely an open-top tank. There's your ventilation.

Instead of an extra water bowl; assuming you have a hide over a heat source, and during a shed cycle, your BP is in that hide, just spray the inside of this hide, that way, the whole environment needn't be condensation-ridden, and the BP will, most likely, remain in the humid hide. Voila. (holy run on sentence!)

Just use repti bark and put a live plant in that gives alot of mist in there

I just wanted to add....I mistakenly set up a ATB in a tank WITH GIANT 9 inch planter as a water dish. Nothing but humidity problems. He wasn't saved until a member on this forum told me to get him out of the tank. Not enough ventilation, or humidity. The "Water dish" doesn't solve crappy ventilation no matter how you look at it. And a large collector, or even smaller like me can't have dozens and dozens of small fans or drill holes in inconvienent tanks for aboreal animals. If someone wants to add that much of a work load, thats cool. Good for them. I'd rather keep things simple, and effective for the animals requirments. Thankfully we are talking BP here. Ventilation not a big deal. We will have to agree to disagree.
