My doter went to her friends birthday, knowing my doter likes reptiles her friends mother invited a guest who dos reptiles shows, the girl doing the show asked if Laurie (my doter) who’d like to have the Boa around her neck, my doter said no thank you! but this snake is to big to put around my neck, so she puts the snake around an other kids neck, the snake started to tighten its coils choking the 6 year old boy creating a panic, then when everything was back to normal, to show how inoffensive this snake was she putt his head in her mouth, then she asked Laurie if she tot the snake was dangerous, probably to calm down the kids? Laurie said I don’t think it’s dangerous for an adult, but I know we must wash our hands after manipulating any reptiles; did you bring your tooth brush?
The girl was offended and verbally insulted my 6 year old doter. I called her to ask what the deal was, she invited me to have a talk and show me how safe her snake was!
Before I entered her apartment I said all I want to know is why you insulted my doter when you where at fault, she told me that this snake was 100% safe because she was dancing whit it in a club 6 days a week and he never bite anyone, also she has lots of experience because that’s her forth snake the others died because the hotels temperature wasn’t right when working outside the province, then she shows me the snake! It was full of mites and hade mouth rot and bubbly nose, his water dish was filthy.
I literally EXPLODED inside and left without a word.

GROSS! We have parents who encourage their children to 'kiss the snake' when their kids are holding it for a photo, and we shut that down right away. When they ask if there is a risk in kissing the snake, I ask them if they would consider it appropriate to 'lick the dog' instead of petting it. Putting your mouth on any animal, regardless of its temperment, is not a good idea in our books.
From the way your describing her. I wonder if she didnt stick the boas head somewhere else, thus giving it the mouthrot.LMAO
That is real nasty though. Cant even trust a birthday party reptile show.

Hopefully they won't remember the condition the snake was in. That really is pitiful when you see an animal mistreated like that. When i was in my clubbin days (about 2 years ago) I used to see girls carry there boas around there necks in clubs dancing and smokin with the snake. Really was a bad site to see. I was wishing the snakes would slither away and come to me. So i could take them home and treat them right.
I had a friend that wanted to take his snake to the club one night i told him if he did i was going to take his snake away. And explained all the dangers to him. Some people aren't the brightest crayons in the box.

From a bellydancer's point of view...
Dancing with a snake is one thing-if you are a really good bellydancer, AND if you know your snake well, you won't have a problem dancing with your snake.
However, smoke around your snake-in bars, or whatever-is NOT a good idea. Having people you are performing for mess with your snake-NOT a good idea. Keep the snake far away from the audience-not everyone likes snakes, either. :(
Some snakes get more stressed out than others. A dancer who wishes to dance with her pet needs to make sure that not only is it well taken care of and healthy, but also to recognize stress-signs before it is too late. Also make sure the snake you wish to dance with isn't too big for you to handle on your own-or is one of those majorly easily stressed out snakes, such as scrub pythons, ball pythons, etc. (and don't even think about using a venemous snake)
Unfortunately, I'm one of the few people who takes her snakes welfare into consideration in this case (but I also do not perform on stage/bars, still learning-and I'm allergic to cig. smoke.)
There was a recent drop-off at a pet store neaby of a boa which had belonged to a dancer, and it had massive RI and mouth problems, not to mention LOADS of stuck sheds. Disgusting. Apparantly she was angry at it or something like that. Stupidity at its best.

thats the second snake i've heard of not being looked after by a dancer.....my Jasmine being the first, she is still being rehabilitated and can only imagine what its gone thru....her face is badly deformed from a burn that i was told was from the lights at her show and being held too close, which has also caused breathing dificulties, and also the fact that i am trying very hard to 'beef' up this poor snake as every bone can be felt in its body when i got it.....the most disturbing i think was the weird mark on her underside that i asked another knowledgeable reptile person about and he said it looked like someone may have tried to cut her open....
horrible.....

Thats because most dancers are not herpers originally. Most of them just see others dancing with snakes and think "Gee, that looks neat" and without thinking about the snake's care requirements-they just go out and buy one and well....
we all know what happens.
I'm not trying to say dancing with a snake is a *good* idea, but if a bellydancer is going to dance with a snake, there are things they need to understand about the snake's care first. If a bellydancer doesn't want to care for a snake, maybe a stuffed snake will have to do!

ChaosCat. I agree, if a belly dancer is going to use a snake to dance with they should know their snake, and still stay away from the audience as much as possible, And stay away from the smoke to! I quit smoking for my animals (like it did much good, 2 other people in this s*it a** house smoke)......Alot of people look at snakes as a way to increase intrest therfore it might increase busines........

Yep. For instance: I would never, ever, even attempt to dance with my female sonoran-as I know she is a snake with quick and unexpected mood swings.
IE: Today I went to take her out, and I placed her on the floor (had to use the hook to take her out-she is territorial of her cage) and unexpectedly, she made a beeline for my foot. No hissing, no warning, she just went straight for my foot.
Yikes! She ended up going back in her cage as soon as she stopped trying to eat my sandal. :P

That's horrible. It's horrible the way that poor snake is treated, it's horrible how she put those childrens' welfare at stake, it's horrible that she had the nerve to say anything to your daughter when your 6 year old daughter had the brains to be safe!, and educational shows are the future of the hobby... if these people are giving them... bah!!!
(Shudder) that's horrid. What the **** kind of person would put a snake around a six year old chilld's neck? Ohhh wait... the same kind who didn't really care about the snake other than as a way to make money. Disgusting.
I knew this stripper who danced on stage with a adult retic, ..only once though and it was a short set(snake ate her)...but thats another story.....anyways, on the instructions that (should) come with snakes..DO NOT PUT IN MOUTH....or anywhere else
people who buy snakes should go through the same kind of interview and application as a person getting a puppy at the pound. its too bad that many people just see $$ signs when selling a pet....any yahoo can get one....:(

Educational shows are the future of the hobby...
Linds this is exactly why I posted this story, we all know or herd about such idiocies, in this case I was emotionally involved because of my doter, I didn’t want my anger to escalate by trying to educate this keeper, all I did was give her this web site and told her she really needs to visit, I know some of you guys will have the patient and understanding to help her, aim warned out when it comes to this Sorry!
Rgds
Steve, i really have to say you have a mature daughter! she sounds very smart, good for her for speaking up! it's to bad she was treated badly, but i really gotta hand it to her, six years old and speaking out the way she did, good for her! that tooth brush comment was great!
I have to completely disagree with anyone "dancing" with a snake around their neck. Do you honestly believe the animal appreciates being surrounded by people while its being tossed around? I dont think so...
Steve, did you make any calls to the SPCA about the bad treatment of that poor snake?
Thats disgusting. People like that piss me off to no end.

Good on your Daughter for telling this irresponsible stripper to brush her teeth. Lol. My Daughter who is 8, holds my baby Boa, but NEVER attempts to put him anywhere near her mouth or face. She always washes her hands before & after handling any of our snakes (WITH Adult supervision). I have only had to tell her once about what to & what NOT to do.
People who have any animal to show off or further their carreer in this case & Don'e give a damn about the animal....MAKE ME SICK!!!!

Good for your daughter for speaking up like that. That woman had no right whatsoever to tell your daughter off, considering that the snake owner has absolutely NO IDEA on how to care for a snake. If I walked into her place and saw the snake in that condition, I most likely would have punched her lights out and taken the snake to a vet.
