View Full Version : Do you keep your sand boas in the same tank?
So I know most people will never keep any snakes together in the same tank. But after looking at some caresheets online (WHICH GIVE THE MOST CONFLICTING INFORMATION EVAR!!!!) I have seen some care sheets say you can keep 2 adults kenyan sand boas in a 20 gallon long aquarium tank. I was wondering what everyones opinion on this information was. Can you keep this breed together? Do you suggest a bigger tank? any information will be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Once our adult male is a bit more acclimated, we'll probably house him with our adult female in a 33 long. For Kenyans, I'd say they are only vaguely aware of each others' existence anyway. And, they are so docile, I really don't forsee them having any kind of stress as a result of cohabiting.

What are your observations that say they don't really know each others existence? A male would definetely know if a female was placed in the same tank as him.
Also what makes docility a basis for stress?

My recommendation would be to keep all snakes separate except during breeding attempts. This includes Sand and Rosy boas.
The biggest concern is feeding accidents. If snakes are fed in the same container, they might both constrict the same prey, and end up, killing, eating or just injuring each other.(it happens more regularily than you might think)
If you chose to feed them separately even this isn't fool proof, as they can carry the scent back to the cage, and still be struck by a cage mate. So washing them off with soap, is really necessary.....
If you sum all this hassle up...its just easier to house them separately most of the time.

House separately.
I have kept them all their lives together and I have never had any problems.. In fact they breed automaticly.. I only seperate the males after they bredd with the female so that he has some rest and the males will go on feeding again.

I'm doing exactly the same thing that skin78 is doing without any apperent (so far) problems. The females have bred last year and this year and my male usually doesn't eat for about 3 months when my females are gravid.

I forgot to mention that I always take the females out and feed them separately.
