Bcc, Bci?

Pardon my ignorance, I know these are boa constrictors but what do the C and the I stand for?

BCC = Boa Constrictor Constrictor, BCI = B. C. Imperator.

To be more specific, BCC are the "True Red-Tails" - Surinams and Guyanas fall into this taxonomy, but I'm not sure if anything else does.

BCI include pretty much everything else - common (redtail) boas, hoggies, sonorans, etc.

Invictus there are also Colombian, Brazilian B.c.c there are other but they are not widly accepted as B.c.c :)

There are also several other sub-species of boas.
B.c.o=argentine boa
B.c.l=longtail boa
B.c.a=Amaral's boa
There are also a few other sub-species but again they are not considered valid by most.

Good to know. I guess I was one of the people who didn't widely accept it. :) I was under the impression that the columbians were BCI.

There are also peruvian, amazon basin red-tails etc which are BCCs (and hog isles which are BCIs).

so with all those names is there any way to know for sure what kind I have? I have learned that the sales staff at pet stores usually couldn't find their own *** with a map so I don't trust what they say when I buy a snake. This is why I only buy from breeders now but I have a this beautiful boa and have no idea what kind it is

Colombians are bci, at least the ones most often seen in the pet trade. Colombian bcc do exist, but there aren't very many. :)

the two pics in my gallery are both of the same snake but one is hard to see because he's on my daughter's head and I wanted to catch the face she was pulling, I believe the other is of him eating, I would attach it here but I can't seem to figure out how, please pardon my incompetence

Thanks! that is very helpful especially when it comes time to breed. I haven't had it sexed yet though. We have wanted to breed this one since we got it, I don't know if it shows in those pics but it has a wild pink color on it's sides coming up from the belly. It comes and goes too, it seems that he can change colors from light to dark in the same day.

We have a high contrast female bci that has a lot of crazy pink and a bright orange tail, too... she is a product of 2 normal 'blah' Colombians, LOL

Ever notice it change colors? Kind of in a simillar way to an iguana? Darker to lighter and back in a matter of hours. I'm sure I'm not making it up but I haven't heard anyone else talk about it happening.

Yup! You are not imagining it. They will darken/lighten depending on temperature, health and metabolism level. :)

I had never even heard of a snake being able to do that before I saw it with my own eyes. Do you know of any other snakes that can do that?
