Depends on what is available & which critter it is for. I voted newspaper tho as I use it more then bark & it is always available.

i use newpaper for my corn. but i would rather use bark or something, cuz its a pain having to remove all of the decorations and logs just to change one sheet of paper O.o
can just i ask though, what exactly is carefresh??

i use indoor out door carpet w/a towel under it so that liguid in poo is absorbed in the towel, and the solid stays on top, so i only change carpet every few weeks, AND when a carpet is dirty you can just throw it in the washer!

I like using newspaper or paper towel, I would use aspen if newspaper wasn't free and so readily available.

newspaper's a cinch...pick it up and replace it to clean. plus, it's free! not very aestetic, though.
