Hello,

I want to get a baby ball python. The plan is to put it in a rubbermaid at first, and move it to a permanent enclosure later on. It would be convenient to move it to a larger home in about 8-12 months time since we are probably moving out of our apartment sometime next spring or summer. How large an enclosure does a BP need for it's first 8-12 months? How fast do they grow?

Mine is about a year old and almost 4 ft long. She was in a 20g for maybe 9 months or so, and now i have her in a 4x20"x2 wooden enclosure.

My little female is about 2 ft and in a 20 gal long, hoping to get a bigger one for her sometime in the future.

A properly set up Rubbermaid is much better for your snake than most tank set-ups...so don't be in too much of a hurry to get a tank (if that's what you were planning)

A good rule of thumb is to provide one square foot of floor space for every foot of the snake's length. You can go smaller if you make sure that the heat gradient is sufficient.
