View Full Version : What would you put in...
A 20 gallon tank? Now since Lucifer is gone....I plan to put something in his replace :( :( :( :( :( anyways....my limit'll be about 75 bucks...
Well first of all be sure he is "gone" as in dead. He could be hiding anywhere....I read your other post and sounds like he DID get killed, but lets say you go out tomorrow and pick up a leopard gecko then later that day out walks your moniter from some hiding spot. ????
I'd wait a week, then feel a bit better about purchasing something else. Lots can fit in a twenty gallon. Leopard geckos, I believe a Crested gecko would work out, Golden Geckos, um smaller snakes like Pueblan Milks, any young colubrid can live in that for a couple years....tons of stuff.

A kenyan sand boa could live in a 20 its whole life. I say Kenyan.

i would say a corn i love them lol
I agree with marisa, I haven't read your story but will be on my way to do so. If there is a chance your missing animal is still around, its a good idea to wait. No harm in fidnijg out now though, since you still need to do a lot of research on the animal you decide on should the tank become available.
Well what are you looking for? Are you looking for a snake, lizard, amphibian? Do you want to handle your pet or just look at it? Do you want something that can stay in the 20gal its whole life or just to start? Do you want something that is relatively easy to maintain or something that is more challenging? There's an awful lot that can go in a 20 gallon... if you give us some more specifics we will be able to give you better ideas ;)
Lizard or amphibian...something I can hold...as well as looks nice to the eye....and yes I would like for it to find a 20 gallon a fairly nice perminant home...
If you want to hold it then an amphibian is out of the question. There permeable skin will absorb the oils and contaminants on your skin, and can harm them.
So lizards... you could keep anoles, but they aren't much for handling. Most terrestrial geckos will do fine in that size tank... arboreal geckos need more vertical space to climb (and they suck for handling as well). Leopards, Bandeds, African Fat Tailed geckos are all great for handling, many of the other ground geckos can be a bit skittish. Sand Fish Skinks will also do fine in a tank that size. They aren't the prettiest and you won't see them much, but they are real neat critters (this coming from a snake person :p). A Fire skink should do fine in a 20 long as well. Emerald Swifts and Pink Belly Swifts can be kept in that size as well, but are pretty high-strung.
Anyways, I replied to your thread... I wouldn't say the situation is hopeless at all. I think you have a good chance of finding your little guy, please don't give up on him, he depends on you :(

$75 bucks? How about a dog-proof cage for starters.....
For something you can handle my choice would be a leopard gecko or a fat tailed gecko. If you change your mind and decide your fine with something you can't handle you could do anoles, long tailed grass lizards, or various tree frogs. I once saw a very nice looking display of anoles with live plants and a waterfall.

leopard gecko, definitely. although a rosy boa would be a nice small snake that could live in the 20 gal.
