View Full Version : Scales??
What does everyone use for scales to weight their herps and where are you getting them from???
Thanks,
Bruce
Bruce - you can buy digital scales, (recommended), or you can buy scales the weigh everything from grams to pounds. If you want to weigh small lizards or snakes, I'd go with a tiny dig. Beware, however, they can get quite costly! Cheapest ones I've seen are probably around a hundred bucks here!
(P.S. Don't ask me why I know so much about scales... J/K) =D
Hey Bruce,
Here is a link to the scale I bought last year.

I was using a metler toledo(sp) lab scale that was so acurate you could blow on it and it would pick it up. It had a capcity of I think 10kg or something like that. Anyway it wasn't mine and I had to give it back. I went to Staples and they had three models that all had a max of 2.2kg, not really enough for what I need. To make matters worse the only one of the three that weighed in 1g units is a battery opperated one. The other two weighed in 2g and then 5g increments. The one I bought is ok for weighing meals and colubrids but my BP's, Hogs and Rainbows will be too big for it next year.

I've got one that I use for my herps, although it's probably not going to be big enough once the snakes have all grown up... works great for the lizards though. I think that it's a Sunbeam postal scale... something along those lines. Bought it at Staples a couple of years ago for around $65...

good old Walmart has a digi in the kitchen goods that does both grams and lbs and is accurate to within a couple of grams. It was $30USD when I bought it

Yeah that's what it's called I bought it yesterday. I like it and it's cheap but it only goes to 2.2kg. If you're never going to weigh anything over 5lbs or 2.2 then it's all you'll ever need.
Cheers,
Trevor
Trevor,
I know, I always recommend that scale whenever this question is asked. I did however find ths scale while I was on there:
KD600 (http://www.canadianweigh.com/KD600.html)
It's not as compact but I like because you can get easy access to the buttons even if there is a large tub on top.
Just getting picky.

Had I seen that one! I think I'll call them and change my order.
