Hey, today I went to get Hugh out of his cage and he kinda hurried away which he has never done before. So I picked him up and he did fine as normal, but when I put him back into the cage, he just laid there in the EXACT position and place I put him in. Normall he scootes right into his hut, but he has been in the same pos. for about 15 min. now :(

Ya my male bp does this to.....don't know why......sometimes he lets himself be picked up other times he would rather not be picked up. And sometimes when I put him back in his tank he just lays in the same position all day.......I've had him stay curled up in his hide for days.......(Atleast that I know of, he could come out when I'm asleep).....and in his cool hide for days to....I wouldn't be to worried........Just my opinion though.....Someone else could have better/more advice.....oh he also does this after he eats.....did Hugh eat recently?

Next time try putting him in on his back, if he doesn't right himself or has a lot of trouble doing so, he has a very serious virus called IBD, but if he can right himself then it is no big deal because he may have just been tired out after you holding him.

So pick him back up, and put him on his back and if he has problems righting himself then take him to the vet...call the vet first to let them know it is a possible IBD case.....if not he was probably just comfortable where you put him....

ok, I tried flipping him over and he turned right back to his belly (so I guess he has no virus)

I thought IBD was uncommon... at least that's what i've read on other threads... My ball does that too sometimes, i'll take him out; i never have had a problem with him trying to get away though, he explores, i put him back in, he just goes crazy checking everything out. I wouldn't worry too much as long as he is eating and pooping and shedding and has the right temps and humidity

JO060:

I think its natural they do that, being they are just that timid and I believe like most animals u get 3 reactions so to speak:

1. get scared and start to flee.

2. must accept they have to cooperate.

3. once they feel secure they "statue" or in danger they "strike"

From all my research animals all fall into these 3 categories so to speak.

And you Ball Python pretty much did all these. Nothing to worry about.

Cya...

i wouldn't worry about it. my bp does that sometimes too. (when i get ultra-neurotic, i stare at him until i am sure he's breathing. hehe)
