Chat explanation needed

O.k. first of all if this shouldn't be here or whatever, delete it, and accept my apologies. Secondly, I really enjoy ssnakess.com and since finding the chatroom it become even more enjoyable on a whole. And third, your website, your rules. Totally. I can dig that.

But I am completly confused about things going on in there. A month or two ago when I first came in (may have been a bit longer) the topic was reptiles in the day and you kept language clean, after nine it was cool to have a bit of fun. Then one night I went in at almost midnight-1 am my time and got kicked because I said "s*it* which I had said many many times before without being kicked (late at night) I am NOT saying I want to cuss, fine whatever no cussing. That's cool. But I mean its one thing, then it changes. There are like what? Zero kids in there at midnight? But o.k. that's cool I can dig that rule too.

But today I go in there and I was told I cannot even type another chats name. Even if I am complimenting it. I also read you cannot bash another chat/site in the ssnakess.com chat. Totally cool with me, it is easy to keep those feelings to yourself. But when I clarified this by asking if I can't even say another chats name that I go to, I was told I couldn't. I don't get this. I chat in a million rooms and I can't compliment someone elses good job now? Or even mention I chat anywhere else? In the chatroom? This is a little nuts if you ask me, but its not my website. I just want to get things straight.

I just find it odd because *anyone* can set up their own channel in MIRC for free, at any time, with any rules. Its difficult to pretend I chat no where else because if I mention it to a buddy in ssnakess.com chat, I could now be kicked? I mean seriously, in a normal chatroom conversation on ssnakess.com I might mention like ten other reptile websites just in a convo with someone, talking about their stuff, their website or whatever! If we can no longer do this, that's cool. whatever. But I am thinking a rules page needs to be put in place so people can at least try to comply with rules and new rules. All I found is :

So maybe I missed a better explanation. But that's all I could find. BTW NO I don't want to cause trouble, but YES I want to chat and follow the rules, and not be kicked. But the paragraph above kinda implies that we CAN say things (not bashing but compliments) about other sites without worrying we are putting ssnakess.com trouble.

You will have to speak with Shane about it, I have nothing to do with the chat room, sorry I couldnt be of more help Marisa... Although if some of these things are the case I will indeed be speaking with him on some of them as I dont agree with not being able to mention other chats / sites in which you frequent unless it is a blatent "come to this chat" / "visit my forums" etc which is spam.

You're lucky to be able to even get into the chat room. I've been trying for a week now & can't connect. I miss the chat room, even if you can't say much anymore. Why can't we get chat working in the U.k,.?

lol np Marisa, I am currently setting up a new chatroom and it should be finished within the next week or so... I will discuss rules with Shane since he knows what goes on in the chat room, I am completely out of tune with it, and have no idea what he is doing with it, and I will post them in the disclaimer of the new chat program... I am also working on irc.ssnakess.com server but I have been having difficulty setting it up on my box, so maybe once its up, other country's will be more successful with connections etc....

the new chat program will also have 2 rooms... Reptile Discussion which is the default and Anything Goes... so there will be no bot in the anything goes room period, if you join that room, you acknowledged the disclaimer and that will be the end of it.. ;)

I agree Marisa, I mean if there is gonna be someone in there that late then thats their problem. And maby the mods thould loosen up on the swearing rules a bit in there too, this isnt kiddy time with barney.

yup I dropped the s wood last night and lo and behold i am banned from chat even though shane says I am not but I am. This is even after he said it is after 9 pm strange I think But I seem to be paying off karma at an alarming rate nothing beats the human as a chat moderator.

Hi guys..sorry for the confusion. I have a whole list of rules coming out that will be defined. As for mentioning other rooms, i dont have a problem with it unless its to as Jeff stated spam to get members to join. When im not there...the ops interpret the rules that i have set fourth. We had a bit of a dicussion for some new rules that i have been playing around with. Currently, the anti swearing thing is one that i have been trying out. Im running a simple bot that monitors swearing. There is still the nine pm rules...but obviously i forgot to turn the bot off. My apologies for that. I dont have him set up to shut off at a certain time currently..but again thats another thing im working on.

As for rules, they are still in the works. The reason i have not posted any currently is because Jeff and I have a major announcement in the works that should be coming in a week or two if he gets it all done. I can tell you this however. The chat expansion will actually include three rooms, a general that will be anything goes, a herp one...and a surprise that Jeff and I have been working on all summer.

There is big things coming in the next couple weeks. I think everyone will love the new channels, i think the new program Jeff has written for the new rooms will blow your mind for those that enter through the site. As for the next couple weeks im very sorry for all the confusion, but i ask that you be patient. For those of you that are having trouble getting on...once Jeff opens the new server those problems will be a thing of the past.

As for the ops in the chat...i think they are doing a great job in this upside down time. I ask that you give them a break, its my fault that i have overloaded them with all sorts of new do's and donts that they try to interpret. They might not always get it right..but their efforts are fantastic and i stand by their decissions. Thanks for reading...Marisa, please msn me if you have any further questions. Hip, that wasnt supposed to happen, we have the bot running up until 9pm. Shane and Myself forgot to shut it off when you were in there last night, our appologies. As for no swearing in the chat, we try and keep in totally clean before 9. After nine, we're lienent, but there are still younger people in the chats so out of respect we do ask people to keep it relativly clean. I know how it is, i do swear a lot myself. As for other chat channels and sites, as far as i have been told, we're not promoting other channels in there or other sites. We have been asked to warn members and if it continues it results in a kick/ban.

I quit using the chat because of the sudden changing of rules everywhere But the new idea of 2 rooms sounds Like a good idea

Great to hear that there is a new chat room on the way! I will definitely appreciate the anything goes / reptile room thing, because I've pretty much stoppd frequenting the chat since it's become more of a hang out for ssnakess members throwing around innuendos and such :D and less of a place to discuss herps.

But yeah, things are probably turnoilish right now! But I dont think the S-word should ever a swearword ;)
