Dumerils?

I'm going to a show this weekend in Syracuse and I'm thinking about getting a Dumerils Boa. I wanted to hear from some owners about temperment etc. Are they generally agressive? Docile?

Also, are there any special things I should know about Dumerils in general before I buy one? Also, how good are they about moving to f/t food items? I currently own a year old BCI that I've had since last year's show. Thanks

I have found that mine are quite mellow....lucky ? ...maybe...my retic on the otherhand...whoa!!!

I've been looking into them for a while too.. From talking to breeders i've heard they get larger than a Bci.. Not sure about temperment, but all the one's i've been around at reptile show's seem very docile.. just an outsiders view though!

Ive owned and bred Dumerils for 8 years. they are born mellow and never get hissy and only strike at food or what they think is food.
They can get 8 feet or more I've been told but my females are 7ish and my males are 6ish. Feet that is.
The babies can be a little tricky to get eating but in time they all end up eating.
This is a great "beginner" snake other than there size.
If you plan to get groups of them remember to keep the males seperate at all times! Sexually mature males will fight very aggressively even to the death. Other than this they are allways very calm. I almost never hold mine (too many snakes),but when I do its like an old pet. I hope this helps.

And Hip, I plan on doing some more web research in the next few days before I make my final decision, but I thought it would make things easier to make a quick post and make sure they aren't generally agressive snakes (which is not a quality I prefer).

Piers, pretty much hit on the head real good info. Neither of mine are agressive either, though my male was one of those tricky eaters he was born in June and didn't eat till like Oct. but is one of my best eaters never refused since he started.

It's not so much that they get longer than Colombians, but they are heavier-bodied.
