What are they like? i am looking for a smallish python? you guys got an idea? are carpet pythons any good?

Carpets are great! They are not small but they are not huge either, for a jungle or irian jaya no more then 7 ft usually. Thier care is simple too. Do some reaserc and them decide if they are for you.

I would say for an IJ carpet you're looking at 5' on average. They are a hardy snake. In my experiences, they are tame (provided you do handle them when they are young in an appropriate way). Jungles grow a little bigger than IJ's and Coastals grow larger then them both. Zoe has a good website to check out on IJ's at www.moreliaspilota.com good luck, and carpets are awesome...
