I was wondering if any of you feed your leps pinkie mice?
I was thinking about it as a treat for my girls but then I was thinking that it might not be so great...plus they only really eat mealies.
Please tell me what you guys think on this subject.
Just pondering,
Jazzey

i feed my leopard pinkies probably once every 2 weeks maximum. The reason for this is to plump them up a little but they are high in fat so its not good to give it to them to often. On most caresheets they advize giving them pinkies but aslong as they can handle one. They should be atleast full size or a little bit smaller. Babies or young leo's should not be fed pinkies because its to large for them to swallow.

I only give them to Aurora since she was laying eggs. If she didn't eat it I gave it to Seneca so it wouldn't go to waste. He got really huge after a couple. Borderline obese in my opinion. I wouldn't offer them except for breeding females. Waxworms make a better treat.

You can it's good to give females pinkies as treats during breeding. I would suggest feeding f/t just incase of any parasites. They will eat f/t if you dangle it in front of them(mine do).

I only feed pinky's to my leos when I'm getting them ready to breed or after the females have laid...Just a little extra fat & protien in thier diets.

I give my leos pinkies if the need should arise. After winter cooling to build up extra body fat, during breeding after a females first clutch, and after breeding season once or twice to help them store nutrients for the cool down period. The females get more than the males, about double. Maybe once or twice a month if they need it. I agree with Alicewave that waxies are a better treat, as well as butter worms and silkies. The pinkie offered should be no bigger than the width between a leos eyes, or they could have trouble swallowing and digesting, and could even become impacted. Good luck!

Lol I'm trying to come up with some comment about a Leos eyes being bigger than it's stomach...ah never mind. :)

I feed a pinky once in a while to my leos, not more than once a month now. I used to give them more often when I used to breed mice myself since I had an almost constant supply of the little pink buggers.

One of my leos goes totally nuts for them! You can put it at the other end of the cage and she'll run out to go snatch it in no time.

I only give 5 or 6 a year at most, so many of the leos I see fail their liver function bloodtests that I don't want to give such a big hit of protein and vitamin D2 all in one feeding and challenge them still further.

Most guys I take in never see them, just a variety of worms and crix and roaches and grasshoppers.

My leo loves pinkies (and fuzzies). I believe they are very good for them as long as your leo can still get lots of excercise. I wouldn't feed more then one a week.

Exactly!
The photo below is one of my females. I feed all my adults with pinkies but the important is to know how much is too much ;)

...but be careful though...i wouldn't recommend fuzzies...you may have a regurg problem if there is not enough heat on the cage.

Greg, beautiful leo you have there! I love the ones with tonnes of spots (like mine:D). Although I'm pretty sure you have a male there, I can see those bulges under the tail! And there is plenty of heat in the cage, she digests them just fine. Although it takes awhile for her to get it down.

She is not that old like the spotted one.

I will have 2 more adult ghost-yellow females soon :)
