View Full Version : geez..yucky feeders.
I had to go out and purchase some F/T pinkies because I lost all my frozen feeders that we bred over last winter during the powerout.
I just got them from a local pet store but dang they were kinda crappy! Most were "o..k" but some were deformed, a couple had holes in them. I was dissapointed. I can't imagine having to feed my snakes random pet store feeders ever again. I feel for those of you that don't have the best feeder source, or breed your own.

Tell me about it ! Can't wait to start my own colony next month.
It amazes me to see the difference between the feeders I buy from a shop versus those I bred and raised myself. Mine are at least twice the size of the store's at the same age!!! Plus I know exactly how they were fed and cared for. Seeing the shape that the store's feeders come in, I really wonder about what setup they were bred in.

Honestly, I've never had problems with feeders from the pet stores here. Petland and Pisces both have excellent feeder stock.
I find it all depends on the store and their source. I've also found the stuff we breed is bigger, our jumbos are a good 700+ grams and i'm wondering if it's because we're using cages and dog food. we brought some weenlings (4 weeks old) in to the store and they wouldn't believe us that they were only 4 weeks old.
Yeah I have found more often than not, feeders you purchase from stores are pretty scuzzy. The one time I ran short and I had to pick up a few only a year or two ago at a big chain store....ewwwww it was awful... they had sores all over them and the whole works
