Wot reptile to buy?

Hey guys i am new here but have been in the business for a few years. I am only 15, have very successfully bred leopard geckos, and now beardies, but i have moved on and need something different to keep. I have been looking for about a year and i think that a royal python would be pretty cool?!?!?! But im not sure, because everyone makes it seem like they never ever eat. Is this a problem with ALL royals? Should i be loking at something that wont stop me sleeping at night? What else is there? :confused: I have been thinking of getting a smallish python or a bigish lizard, like a small monitor....

please help coz i need a reptile to keep me sane!!! or i will end up like him --> :grab:

Some BPs feed like absolute machines. You almost never know, but yes, the Regius is notorious for being very picky feeders. If you were a first time REPTILE owner, I'd say start with a corn, but since you have some reptile experience, get whatever tickles your fancy. Just be prepared for a lot of work if you get one of the picky ones.

i had one of the picky ones damn are they anoying as hell but he was good i just had to get used to how i had to make him wana eat after that i just went through the same rutine so dont worry they all wana eat after a time i havent had a snake yet thats gone off food and not goten back on

Get a nice, well started captive bred ball python from a good breeder and you WON'T regret it! They are great snakes. There are a lot of ball pythons out there who will go on pretty long fasts, but if you get a nice cb ball, you're only increasing your chances of having a good feeder. :)

if you wanna get a bigish lizard you could get a uromastyx. If im not incorrect the egyption uromastyx grow to be the biggest at about a foot or smothing. I dont know how rare they are but they get nice and big. The more famous ones are the maliensis uromasyx. I have two of them myself and there great lizards. Just a thought :) good luck with whatever you decide

You may also want to look into the family Antaresia for small pythons. They consist of Stimpsons, Children's, Spotted and Anthill or Pygmy. I've had my Spotted Python for three years and she has never been a fussy eater. She's a good 3.5 feet long. And very docile.

However, if you want something with some more girth to it, a Ball Python is a good choice. Just make sure, as cranwill said, to get it from a good breeder, make sure it's CB and you're good.

Biggish lizard, Sav monitor! :D I love those guys. They're like puppies lol But they do get large and you will require lots of space for them and also be able to feed them and such.

ball pythons can be picky eaters....and they can make you pull your hair out and want to yell and scream! But like others have said if you get a nice CB breeder then it should be fine for feeding.....Don't know about the big lizards though.....I've seen something called a Tegus, looked to be about 3 -4 ft???????Don't know how big they get, but it was VERY pretty....black and white, then they had a redish sand colored one.

if you do like everyone is saying and make absolutely sure that it is feeding before you get it, there should not be a problem. I got a captive hatched from a reputable breeder that was an eating machine and she still is. Fed the first time I offered and then wanted more. Good luck and keep us posted!! =D

i think the key with bp feeding problems is to expect them. do everything you can to ensure the snake is healthy--buy from a good breeder, make sure it's cb and feeding--but know that they often go off feed. If you are prepared for that, it will freak you out less when it happens. Lots of problems come from a neurotic bp owner who forcefeeds after three weeks of unsuccessful feeding.

what about a blood, those guys get huge, they look like a turd they are so fat, and some are just absolutly stunning, and i hear they are all right snakes.

I'd have to say a uromastyx for a lizard. They have such personality and they're a lot of fun! But i also own a Ball Python, so it's really a tough call. They're both awesome! Keep us posted on what you decide :)

i am really not sure now!!! i have looked into a lot of different reptiles, chameleons; savannahs(which i really really wanted at one stage but my mom said they were too big); but i have always come back to the bp!!! this isnt going to be a quick thing, i know that!!! once i get my debts cleared, and have some more spare cash, then i will probably get a bp. I had to sell my two sub-adult beardies yesterday which has kinda sent me of course a bit.... but ill get over it.... i am still not sure what i want?!?! time will tell
