ok .. so i just checked on my crix, and one of the carrots has turned white overnight!!!!

i quickly removed it and replaced to food ... my question is are the crix garbage or not?

Just to be on the safe side, if I encounter mold in a feeder insect bin I empty the bugs out into a clean rubbermaid and observe them for 3-5 days. If they die off more quickly than they should, then I definitely toss them.

If they seem okay, I keep them as breeders but don't feed them directly as molds can be very toxic and it's way cheaper to replace crickets than to have to treat your chams for a fungal infection.

I'd tend to follow that advice just to be safe. If mold is a persistent problem in your herp room or house in general, I'd suggest looking into an ozone generator.

I had to resort to one after several successive basement floods and reckless reno by my landlord. The whole house filled with airborn spores and they started germinating in every damp area. After installing the O3 system, the molds have virtually disappeared.

ahh - that sux

i think everything is ok though .. we bought some more crix today and we were almost out of the others anyways :)
