first time owner of any snake

Hi everyone i got two snow corns tonight they are so awesome lol.It is my first time owning any kind of snake i have done research before bringing them home i think im going to have alot of fun with them just thought i would share that with everyone and i hope to maybe get some pics up thanks B.J.

Welcome to the largest Herp family :)
You made a great choice for first time snakes.
Corns are great and very tame.
Don't forget handle them (2 days after they eat) to let them know you better.
I hope soon you will discover that snakes are very interesting animals to observe.
You must observe them to understand when something is wrong.
And when you're ready upload some photos ;)

corn snakes are one of the best snakes to own!
I have kept snakes for 16 years now and I have kept tons of snakes and different kinds and I still find that corns are the best snakes to have....currently I own around 600 corns so far....not too bad of a collection right?

Thanks. i do love them already but as in another post now i found mites on them and im not to happy.im not exactly sure how to get rid of them.but thanks to everyone that posted to this thread

sorry but do i soak them in a bath or mist them from a spray bottle? the ones im having trouble with are the ones that stay in the eye sockets.again sorry this is the first time i have ever hade to deal with mites.

are you going to go with the NIX method for getting rid of the mites? If so, you must make sure to dilute it because it is FAR too concentrated. take your snake out of it's current enclosure, and put him/them into a new one (a large tupperware is great for the time being) and use papertowel as a substrate. Reason being, you can see the mites just a little easier. when using nix, do no soak them in it. you are going to lightly mist. remember, some mites like to hide behind the tips of the scales so look real close for them there. personally, i only had one snake that had mites and it was very very minor ( i got rid of them very quickly). good luck...

oh, don't put your snake back into the old tank until it is completely sanitized!

With mites the trick is to deal with them for a few time (1 week) and clean EVERYTHING!...Clean every day, both snakes, cage, bowl with water.
Snake must have a bath every day for an hour in soapy water so the mites can drown.
For mites i had use vapona but it is NOT recommended for all snakes and for juveniles.
Be sure to clean outside around the cage and the floor of the room.
After 1 week take a magniffient glass (i don't know if it's correct-excuse my english) and search the lips, eyes, throat and back the abdomen, carefully for baby mites.
If you don't see any, the next week be precasious.
If you see baby mites, repeat the whole proccess.

I like Provent-A-Mite. it's the same active ingredient as NIX but far more effective.

Remove snake and water from the enclosure, you can soak the snake but do not add soap, the snake will drink the soapy water.
Read the directions on the can three times.
Spray the enclosure and allow it to ventilate for 1/2 an hour.
return the snake with fresh water.
repeat every 2 weeks until all mites are gone.
