Feeding Question

Ok, I've got a question (and chuck please don't call a fellow Georgia Boy an idiot).

I have a young ball python (about 8 months - 2 feet long). I have read that you should feed between once a week and every four days. But what I don't know is how much. I mean just one mouse, 2 at a time? If more than one at once how long between mice do I wait to feed next one?

if you get him taking a small or medium rat every 7-10 days now(moving to jumbos over the next year or so) you'll be the envy of a number of ball owners here lol.

Give your snake enough food to leave a significant lump in the belly. Our BCI looks like a beer bottle after we feed him. He's the happiest snake alive, growing like a weed, and shedding regularly. It's the same for BP's. Someone should be able to look at it and say "wow, that's a full belly!".

I feed both of my bp on a regular schuedule....every week on the same day...one gets a small rat the other one gets an adult mouse. They eat and then slither to their hot hides, and usually stay there for a few days.......

You need to feed him with one prey at the time once a week (4 to 7 days between each lunch, its at your discretion)

My BP would take anything, even every 2 days. But i try to feed every 4 days.

You think thats bad solid snake...my male bp would probably take a hot piece of celery if it was dangled in front of him!!!! and if he could he would eat everyday!!! He is a little piggy!

same here, my bp, gina,, eats whenever she likes if I dont watch it... I feed her every 4 days... wich for her means... that she has 5 / 6 adult mice in a month... ( she sheds every month on the same day :S )

Yeah. Every 4-5 days would be good to feed (for now) But you want to feed your BP 1 and then wait about 3-5 min. and see if it still looks hungry judging by how its looking or how full the stomach is. Then give em' a nudder one ;)!

I know... but she hates rats... I tried it.. with a juvenile rat... she just went into her agressife mode.. and thats is.. she killed the rat but didnt eat it nomatter what.. I tried froven .. life... prekilled.. nothing....but I keep on trying...

One prey item every 5-7 days is fine for a baby. 5 is fine, 6 is fine, 7 is fine... its just a general guideline. Use this guideline until you learn to recognize when your snake is hungry. With time, you will be able to recognize when he is cruising around in hunting mode and be able to go on his schedule instead of yours ;)
