View Full Version : Help!
I need help identifiying this little beauty. It was discovered living in te basement of an old womans house here in lower michigan. First thoughts suggested freak albino garter to me, but as I kept looking, it looks more and more like a corn to me. I thought you guys would be able to tell me what it is exactly. It will most likely go to Central Michigan University, but if they dont want it, I hope to be second in line. Keep in mind it does not have to be a native species , a desert tortise was found crossing a road around here too :P
Thanks for the help

I'm gonna say albino garter or ratsnake.

Forgot to mention disposition
Not a single attempt at biting, no struggle at all to get away.
I am sure it was in good health, so thats not a factor in dispositon.

Looks like a striped albino King snake to me. Head shape just doesn't look like a corn to me, but I could be wrong.

I can almost guarantee 1000% that it is as already stated a striped albino california king snake & it was most likely an escaped pet as they do not occur naturally. Good score & good luck with your new snake. Mark I.
Actaully, i think ur right
weird, didint even think of kingsnake as an option
What got into me
lol
I belive CMU will take the snake, but I cannot be certain as it is relatively common. If they dont take it though, I would love to have it as it is a very beautiful snake.

i'd say its a king, but to be sure.. the scalation of cal kings is.....
Dorsal: 23-25
Ventral: 213-255
Sub-caudal: 44-63
Infralabial: 9-10
Supralabial: 7-8
Analplate: single
and yes i am full of useless information:D sorry i dont have the scalation for garter snakes:( and if it is a king... dont ever let me hear you call it a garter snake again (grrr!)
Well first thoughts would be something native, the closest is garter, so that is what I automagically assumed
btw thanks for the scalation

LOL its late ill try that tomorow morning, thanks
I'm more of a lizard person, but I was sure that kingsnakes were banded, and the snake in question has stripes.
-Brock
banded kings and striped Kings both exist, and that ain't no corn

As many others have posted before - this is an albino california kingsnake. They come in banded and striped, and combinations of the patterns.
This is one of our guys for reference - he is banded on most of his body with a striped pattern on his tail. They are great snakes - very energetic and curious. If you don't get to keep this one, you could always purchase one of your own - they are quite commonly sold.

Here is a picture that I found of an albino striped cal king.
Very Very similar, so similar that I would bet money on it

Yup. Look at the head shape and the pattern on the back of the head, which is almost a dead giveaway.. that's a King that you found.
