What is the largest tortoise that is reasonable to purchase?

A Sulcata is huge and inexpensive. That is probably your best bet if you want good size and affordable. A leopard is a bit smaller. Also a good choice though.

Joe has a pair of those. Isn’t there one that is quite a bit bigger…start with an A and really isn’t that expensive.

Ive heard indian stars get to a good size, other then that I think you should go with a sulcata.

The largest tortoise I can think of (but I don't know the prices over there) is the Geochelone sulcata... if it's starts with an A... lol.. you might be refering to it's common name, the African Spurred Tortoise ;)

Hope this helped :)

Maybe you're talking about aldebrans (geochelone gigantea). They get big. Like kids can sit on them and ride around big. Can't get them here in Canada though, thtat's probably why everyone's sayin sulcata. They're not cheap by any means of the imagination though. Like 2g's american a pop.

the russian tortoise only reaches sizes around 8-10 inches. I have seen pictures of full grown sulcatas i could imagin a baby could ride on one of those things to...there HUGE and not to much money either. I have seen 1 or 2 at the toronto show. Maybe they will have them in september
