Anyone from Ottawa?

I'm moving to Ottawa in 2 weeks. Do any of you live there? What kinds of herps do you keep? I found out about the reptile club there already, but they want me to send money for a membership before I am told where and when the meetings are. I want to atleast go to a meeting before I join.

I'm part of the Ottawa posse! YEE-HA! As my signature says, I'm highly addicted to chameleons and I have, give or take, 25 of them at the moment. And this may also come as a surprise to most folk on this forum, but I actually own a few snakes as well, a few BCI and a GTP.

As for the Ottawa Herp Club... it is free to join. The $25.00 (or whatever it is now?) membership fee is for the monthy newsletter, that will tell you about the next meeting and other herp related stuff, but you don't need that to come to a meeting. Click here (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ottawaherps/) for the Yahoo group and join the mailing list. You will get an email as to where and when the next meeting will be and come join the fun.

Hello Lizzy!! A big welcome to SNOTtawa the city of snobs and city councillors with heads buried in their posterior regions! :D j/k (sorta)

You are probably best to keep it on the hush-hush if you keep anything more than cats or goldfish in this city (bylaws here have gotten ridiculous and people just don't grasp that a leopard gecko or a corn snake actually CANT do them any harm)

As for the herp club... I always heard it was free to join and attend. The meetings are held at people's houses (if they are charging for anything more than the newsletter I will fall over laughing) Probably not the greatest idea to join the yahoo group though... when I did that I started receiving several daily spam emails and virus emails (easy to narrow down where they got the addy when its the only place I put it... grr @ yahoo)

That's great guys! I'm so excited to move there! I have 8 leo's and a softshell turtle. So the by-laws are pretty bad huh? Sheesh. Thanks for the tip about keeping it quiet. Where are the good reptile stores in Ottawa?

Superpet has the biggest reptile section as far as I can think of... they sell some nice stuff.
