i have two tanks that i built but i wanted to know about how many gallons these 2 tanks are.
They first and bigger one measures:
60" long x 21" high x 21" wide
The second smaller one measures:
48" long x 18" wide x 21" high
how many gallons do you think each one is approx.
thanks :)

Just search "calculating gallons" on Yahoo and you can figure it out pretty easily...

the 48'' one is probably a 75 gallon tank. And the other one is anywhere from an 80 gall to a 100 gall tank.

i found the formula to find out gallons.
Multiply the length x the width x the depth in inches, then divide by 231
And that will give you the the capacity in gallons
which gallons? us or imperial?

i dont understand what was meant by that question. Could you explain what your asking? When you use the forumla i gave in my last post all you have to do is multiply all the lengths and than divide by 231 and it will give you the number of gallons the tank is. Im just using canadian gallons i guess...does that answer your question?

if you do a search for "tank calculator" on msn etc, then it pops up a few different fish keeping websites which have online calulators on.. it does us/uk gallons and different shapes of tank.
heres one http://www.tropicalfishcentre.co.uk/Calc.htm

so mine are 80 and 115..thanks :)
there's no canadian gallons. we use liters and that's easy to calculate. 10cmX10cmX10cm = 1dm^3 = 1 liter.

what would gallons have to do with canada or us or europe. Woudlnt on gallon be the same everywhere??? or atleast the same between us an canada. If it isnt that is pretty dumb? How would you do business or something over the border if they dont follow the same measurments?
you can see why we stopped using hands.

1 European gallon = 1.20095 US gallons = 4.546092 liters.
Many different forms of measurment out there that have been around ever since man realized a need.
At least it is easy to figure out in a pinch. ;)

Correct.
That site is only accurate if the tanks are in Pogo and made of glass.

Oh my god!
You are RIGHT!!!
No way possible to figure out what their capacity is!
Actually.. with the measurements you gave, I came up with -
114.5455 US gallons & 78.54545 US Gallons
AND
95.37904 UK Gallons & 65.40274 UK gallons.
The hard choice is yours...
Ya wanna call them in US or UK gallons? :D

yea thats what i got to on that site rach gave and i think im just gonna go with US gallons since they are our neighbors :) UK is far away so if i wanted to sell a tank i would tell them US gallons instead of UK..would make more sense, no? When you buy a critter cage for instance, is that measured in US gallons?

Yes.
I think UK gallons are just designated gallons, where if you're talking about gallons from the usa you say "US gallons". unless of course you're in the usa, where they only have US gallons. personally i'd use liters as it sounds like a lot more and it's what us canadians use.
