hopless burm!!!!!!!

don't know what to do with my burm. at first it took me 2 weeks to get him to eat. them he stopped again, noticed that he had mites, so got ride of all the mites.now it's been over a month and he still won't eat.I'm completly out of ideas on what to do. I don't want to get ride of him but I'm starting to get frusrated! any Ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks yoo all.:grab:

How old is he? What have you tired offering? (ie live, brained, hot headed, scented, etc). Have you had a fecal done?

The snake may not be eating for a variety of reasons. The temps would be my first concern. Burms seem to thrive well at temps of 82-83 cool side, and 92 warm side. If it's not warm enough on the warm side, the snake will not eat, knowing it can't properly digest it's food. Check the temps first. Next, what are you offering? Live, prekilled, Frozen/thawed? THere are lots of tricks to get snakes to eat, with prekilled or f/t being the best choices. Third, it could very well have parasites, so if your temps are correct, then a trip to the vet would be my recommendation. Mites can bring a snake's immune system down, depending on how bad the infestation is. It could be that it's still felling puny from the mites. I hope you're not serious about giving up your snake because of this setback. Of all the things that could be wrong, this seems pretty minor. Good Luck

first check your conditions and cage setup. Give the snake a hiding box. It might work to put the snake in a small box with a prey item ( dead or only a harmless prey item) It also might work to cut the dead prey items nose off and hold it in front of the snake or just leave it in his cage.

Hope you will try for some time it would be a shame to let him go.

the temp is ok. he has a hide box.I've tride all color prey. I've tried prey killed, frozen and live. nothing seems to be working. he seems to be in shape because he is always moving around the terrarium. so what to do now!!!!!!!!!

what prey items did you use??? sometimes chicks will work.
did you also try rat pups?? or hamsters or gerbils??

i wouldnt recommend chicks.....hamsters or gerbils. Chicks arent very healthy at all and are a NASTY mess to clean. If your burm will take the other two....wut if thats all he wants?? Can you afford those items every weeks. But you could simply scent a rat with gerbil or hamster

don't know what happened but when I got back home this afternoon my snake was dead????????????? wonder what I did wrong???????????? first time I ever lost a reptile!!!!!!!!

Wow sorry, im telling you, mine did the same thing. Exactly what you are saying. Unforgtunatly i didnt take it to the vet to get a cause of death done. So wierd tho, that is exactly what happend, he ate like a pig, then didnt eat for two weeks and i went to try again and he was dead. Man....i just know know.

Is your burm a male?? How big is he??? As long as you have the tank at the proper temperature and all husbandry has been met and he does not look like he is losing weight then don't worry too much. Male burms over 8' have a habit of going off their food for extended periods of time. Our males that are 10 & 12 feet have a habit of not eating for 6 months at a time so we make sure that when they are in an eating mood we feed them 10lb rabbits. (frozen thawed of course).

Sorry I did not read the whole posting are you sure it did not have a RI. This can kill them quick. Were there any bubbles at the mouth or did you notice a rattle when it breathed I don't mean the leaky tire hiss I mean a rattle like congestion. The other solution is no under the tank heat source so it can digest its food better or one more solution is a broken rib. Because the animal is so large you have to be careful when you transport them in and out of the tank.

Once again I am sorry to hear it died we lost one not too long ago.

most burms eat like pigs but there are alwas exceptions. your burm could of died due to a weak immune system from years and years of in breeding, especaly when your working with morphs you will see snakes that might get weak over time due to het breedings and such

I'm sorry to hear that. How long did you have him? Mine had problems feeding at first but now she udnerstands that she has to strike at it and swallow to get that full feeling.
