View Full Version : Too Hot

I found out recently that I had been keeping my enclosure too hot, around 100 F on the basking side . I was using those cheap thermometers you stick to the inside of the cage. I now realise that the center of where the light is shinning is the hottest. I now use probe thermometers and they are fantastic! I can measue the temp in the center of where the light is shinning. I suggest that no one uses the ones you stick on the wall and I am lucky my animal never got burned.
Thanks for listening!

Thanks for the advice. It comes in handy as I am working on a new cabinet & will be after thermometers for it quite soon.

when you say stick on do you mean the flat long ones that stick directly themselves? or the round dial ones that have the double sided tape on the back

definatly pick up a digital IN/OUT digital thermometer from the garden section at zellers, you can get them for like 12$ there.. and they are like 95% accurate and having the small probe you can stick it anywhere you want :P

I never would have even thought to look at Zellers. Thanks Jeff. :)
LOL RaVeNo88o - I was thinking the EXACT same thing as I read Jeff's post! Boy, we are bad! Jeff - thanks for directing us to a place where we can buy these probes.... I'm wondering where in the U.S. I would find them.... I'll look around!

I picked some up at Radio Shack, I've seen them in the U.S.

For gauges radio shack has a nice one(digital) though expensive that can be expanded to 3 or 6 units(I believe it comes with 2) and I think gives high/low and humidity readings. Raytek sells great temp guns.

I got mine at wal-mart- in, out but not at the same time for 9.00.
I also have a couple of the 4 in ones: Time, In, Out and Humidity
The great thing about these is that they have a memory and tell you at what time the Hi's and low are. I just move it from enclosure to enclosure... about 30.00
