View Full Version : When are they Weaned?
Okay, one of my lady rats had a litter a while back, and she's about due for another one now. I was wondering if I should take her other babies out now? And when can I tell if they are weaned?
Thanks!
Zoe
I thought weaned just meant that they were eating and drinking for themselves and not on milk anymore...
It does, but I cant tell unless I see them eating something :) OR at least I dont know how to tell.

If the mom looks like she is going to pop soon I would have to guess they are ready to be weaned.

Hi.
Mice and rat are weaned after 3 weeks....if you dont have the date of birth, you can just wait untill the next litter comes and then take the "big" babies out. Then they are at least 3 weeks old....Some rat can go a bit longer if she is going to have a big litter....but if not itīs normal that she will have babies every 21 days. if the male is not removed....
Regards
Brian
Zoe i remove babies at three weeks to the day and never have had a problem. And since it takes at least three weeks for her to have another litter they are probably weaned.

Just so you all know I moved the babies last night and this morning she had a new litter of 13 (2 stillborn, tho, but still not bad!)
