I want one too! :O
Fantastic! I love Russians and think yours is a darling! Is it a he or a she? That would help with name suggestions.
I'm thinking of adopting 2 more and calling them Bull and Dozer. ;)
Oh, and have you been to this website? It's great for learning about these cool little guys: http://www.russiantortoise.org/
There's a great newsgroup full of interesting people and lively discussion, and also a seed bank where folks can share their surplus and ask for things they can't easily find in their area.

Can i use mulch for a substrate? or can i use lizard litter instead of sand for the tortoise?

Hey congrats man. Looks awesome good luck with him!
Great looking little guy!! I use a topsoil/sand mixture with my torts, its cheap and easy to replace. You can use cyprus mulch or aspen but stay away from the commonly availabe cedar or pine mulches, they both contain oils that can be irritating to reptile skin.
Good luck

for zhiv9
i got mulch from a reptile store and they really know a lot about reptiles there no little crap store :) So i doubt that this mulch is harmful to the reptiles or else they would not use it themselves. Its no like i got it from canadian tire or home depot mulch that is used in the garden so you still think it owuld be okay??
The mulch is probably fine. I can't remember the last time on saw cedar anything in a pet store, especially a reputable one. Though it doesn't hurt to call and ask! Usually it says on the bag someplace. I love a captive bred Russian. Here in canada all i've seen are wild caught pairs available.
