View Full Version : HELP!! I'm scared!
My baby bp ate last night for the second time in 5 days and I checked on her about 10 mins ago and she was kind of laying sideways like she was dead and she wasn't moving. She's breathing but not moving. Is this just because she is full as a tick and doesn't want to move? She ate a large rat pinkie and she still hasn't passed her meal from last week. OMG I hope she is ok. I moved her a bit and she came off her side and flattened out. Is this normal behavior for a snake her age full of 2 rat pinkies??
She's dead. I don't know why but I'm very upset. Why would she feed twice and then die? She is still full, but there is somekind of bloody looking water coming from her nose? Why would she eat and then die? Her environmental conditions are perfect for her warm and cool, hides, high humidity cuz she's in shed. What did I do wrong?

oh my gosh, I'm so sorry to hear that.
is there still a visible lump in her body? if so, the food may have been too big for her to digest. Maybe someone else can shed some more light on this. Again, I'm really sorry for your loss.
there is a very visible lump in her body. She was fine when i went to bed. I hate this. Thanks for your condolences.

i've heard of snakes who weren't able to digest their meal quickly enough, and it started to rot inside their bodies. The bacterial buildup killed them. maybe this happened? what is her heat like?
she is warm and wet right now because she is in shed. 80-85 with a hide on the warm side and on cool side 72-78 with a cool hide. I tried to give her warm basking as much as possible without drying her out because she was currently recovering from dehydration.

Sorry to say this but it was probably the combination of dehydration, shedding, and too much food. Probably caused too much stress. Also, you should have a basking area of around 90-92 degrees. After I feed my ball I usually turn the temperature up a bit for the next day or so to help the snake digest the food. My guess is since the snake was dehydrated, it couldn't pass the food through it's body properly, and/or digest it properly.
So sorry for your loss. :(

sorry about the snake. I doubt this is why he died, but i thought you werent supposed to feed a new prey item, while one was still digesting.
i was told by several people that some snakes will eat several times before passing anything. i was just following feeding schedule. I'm getting a new girl though. She'll be here tuesday. If anyone wants to see this is her...

oh, ok i may be wrong ....i tried the link and i just get an error page.
is the breeder giving you a new one free of charge?
no this is a different breeder. I was sold an already malnutritious snake. The dealer I bought the one from that died knew she was sick and still sold her to me. I don't want another snake from him. I ordered my new snake from BALLPYTHON.com. try this link she's 4th from the top. little normal female.

well, i understand why you dont want another from the same breeder, but maybe you could get refund or at least partial refund. Did they tell you flat out that they knew it was sick? or was that b4 you bought it and you agreed.
that new one you are getting looks awesome...i ddint know that site existed
Dan and Colette have a very good reputation. You oughta read a lot of that site. The next time I get down to where I bought the sick one from I'm going by there to tell him what happened and tell him that I know she was sick. I only payed 30 dollars for her. He already knew she was sick, he just didn't say. They wanted to sell us a pair for 50 bux. He wanted to get rid of them.
So sorry to hear about your girl. I was worried when you mentioned how small she was :( You won't be disappointed with your next girl. The Sutherlands are amongst the best breeders to get a BP from ;) Just be sure to keep your temps higher than what they were... 80-90 works well. Another word of advice, I would contact the person that sold you the sick snake ASAP, its not something you want to wait on ;) Good luck with your new little one!
Thanks Linds for your condolences and all the help you've given me. We've got everything disinfected and ready for the new arrival. We've been toying with the uth and lamp and such to get right temps and humidity. We are prepared that time. We have also made an attempt to get in touch with the person that took us to that dealer/breeder so we can contact him. If I had known she was sick I might have been able to save her with the right information from the right people. But I did my best and I know the snake that I'm getting from the Sutherlands will be tip top. :D

Mango, sorry to hear about this. It sucks to loose an animal, regardless of the cause.
