View Full Version : Tank Sizes...
Hi,
I'm really new to corn snakes, but not the herp community :) Now, I'm 'plannin'' on purchasing a male "Rosy" corn and a "Snow" female corn. What size tank should I get for these two snakes...
Also, whats minimal tank size I can use for ONE corn snake... adult size per-say... Thanks for your input.
Oh, and my plans are to breed the male "rosy" and the female 'snow'... does that have anythin' to do with tank size?
I'm sorta new, so cut me some slack ;)
Thanks,
Mike :D

I would say a 3' tank is ok for an adult and a 4' should be fine for a pair.

i keep mine in a 40 gal. breeder. and they should never have a problem with that tank. I do plan on getting them a bigger one later down the line somewhere.

a 20 gallon long will be fine for both throughout their lives and will allow several more tanks than the above posts. All of my adult breeder corns are in 20 longs and the rosy could probably even stay in a 10 for it's lifetime. A 20 long is about 7 ft in diameter and most corns only get about 5 ft in length. a 4X2X2 is enough for an 8 ft snake, a bit of overkill for a corn don't you think.

My cages give all my animals plenty of room to move around i like giving them that extra space. Unless it causes stress or they cant catch there food cause the tanks to big (for leos). If you have the space to give and don't plan on keeping hundreds of herps then you can go bigger.
I've never heard of a "rosy" corn...
got any pics?

i'd say at least a 33 gallon. more if you can. corns aren't the biggest, however, a 20long (which I have 2 of), isn't long enough for an adult. i have a 1.5 year old that streteches the length of his 20Long no problem, so by the time he stops growing, and fills out, he'll be hard-pressed to get around easy. Not to say he wouldn't be healthy in a 20Long, but in my opinion, why not at least go a couple sizes bigger... do go for floor space though, not height.

A 4' isn't that outrageous for a corn. You have to keep in mind, they are often VERY active snakes, and like to wander a lot. But, if space and finances are limited, a 3' is ok too.

I do agree that maybe one adult could fit in a 20 long, but not two. If your gonna get 2 get at least a 30 gallon and up. And what are you talking about a 20 long having a diameter of 7 feet. I never knew rectangles had diameters?????

i agree with reptiledude... space is good.. and rectangles dont have diameters just width, length and height.

there is a 20 gal tank but it's usually taller the 20 gal. long is longer rather than taller. If that makes any since whatsoever. LOL
