i was outside walking around and i found this HUGE stump with a big hole in the middle so i decided to take it home and throw it in my tegu tank. I knew i had to get rid of any bugs but it wouldnt fit in the oven so i decided to put it on the BBQ on a really low flame. Im pretty sure that killed everything. I also sprayed it with bug killer and than gave it a really really good rinse. Finially its in my tank and it looks awsome but ill eventually have to take it out when the tegu is full grown but that wont be for a while.
heres a pick of the stump. i put leafs in the hole to make it look nice

Dood... I'm not so sure about the bugspray part being cool... especially since you probably feed your tegu crickets and such. I know you mentioned that you rinsed the stump off 'really good'... but I would want to take a chance like that... Woods are so absorbant I doubt that all traces of the insecticide have been completely eradicated... I would suggest replacing it with one bought at a pet store... worth the money if you ask me...
Good luck with your tegu!

i used miteaway. Isnt that mdae so its not harmful to the lizards? and no i didnt feed him crickets.. i only feed him diff types of worms and other things

Insects are insects dood, and miteaway is designed to kill insects. I'm not sure about being harmful to lizards, but anything that's made to kill insects doesn't sound like a wise choice. I'm willing to bet money there's a warning label on it pertaining to human safety.... so, be careful, I'd personally advise you just to go out and buy a stump for your tegu. It's a hella lot better then finding it dead one day from poisoning. Good Luck!

true i think im gonna take it out..anyways it takes up a lot of the tegus roaming space.

Theres not really a nessecity to treat anything for Teiids, Varanids etc.. the worst you would get is a wood mite or two.. which wont hurt your lizard. And if they eat any of the bugs it wont really matter. I've got 800 lbs roughly of out-door in ONE of my enclosures, so that gives you an idea of the kind of bugs, ants etc that do come in. The ones that dont get eaten die off rather fast anyways. Good luck.

Hey if you wanted to kill the bugs in the stump you should have just put it in the freezer...
and whoa, my oven is twice the size of my barbique, doesnt that just suck... oh well

I meant to say outdoor dirt, and forgot to put that in. haha. it's all in their nesting box.

Oh man that is awesome! It's been a dream of mine since I was a little kid to have a montior or a very large iguana to live with me! Sort of like a free-range set up... would be GREAT.

so you think it would be okay to leave it in the tank?
