View Full Version : i want one but.....................
i want a atb but i heard that they bite is there a sertant sub-species or color that is nice or is it just a rarety that they are nice?
thanks,

each animal differs individually. there is no color that is any different than the rest.
Its safe to bet that most ATBs are pretty aggressive, alot will calm down with handling, but the majority do not make good "take out and play with" snakes

ATB's are fairly agressive, but, you can occasionaly get the rare one that is perfect for handling. It's a dime a dozen, but, it does happen. The breeder of my BCI has an ETB that is absolutely docile, and I handled him with no event.
Get it from a someone that as "tame" breeders
Buy it young
Handle him alot
They're very alert, but once they can make the difference between the temparature of your hand and the temperature of a prey, they become great snakes.
It can take sometime to take them out a their enclosure, but be patient.
I don't wanna use gloves, so I really take my time,, I slide my hand on the glass 'till I can reach them an gently grab them. If you leave your hand in the middle on nowhere, they'll strike.

I've gort three. Two gardens and a red. One garden is ok but does still bite, the other....well never have I ever seen evil so singulary personifed as in the face of that snake! He will not stop striking. There's no question that there are calm arborials out there but as a general rule they are for display only.
Cheers,
Trevor
Yes it's possible to have a kind ATB!!
My little baby yellow ATB is really easy to handle.
He has a corn snake temperament :)
He bites rarely!
So, I have to handle him often! If I don't handle him more than 6-7 days, he snap me!
But.....he is so small that his bite is not painful!!
ATB is my favorite species of snake even if they are a little monsters!!!

If you get a nice CBB amazon you have a very good chance of aquiring a very handleable snake. Most of the ATB out there are WC, and often WC animals can be quite high strung. You cannot guarantee your snake will be handleable, but that holds true with every species to one degree or another. If you aren't prepared to take a bite, then don't get one, but do realize, that if you get a CBB baby and you handle it often your chances of having a handleable adult are good :)
