When he was younger I used news paper. But since he is an adult now, I have been using play sand for the last year and a half with no problems. I don't worry about him ingesting it anymore because he eats mainly veggies and a few mealies out of a deep bowl. I tried calci sand and hated it.

I will be using a type of crushed walnut shell. They almost look like the Juvinile BD commercail food, Exept its all one colour, a light light light brown. At the moment i am using Play sand an hate it.

Reptilez, I've fished a ton of walnut shells out of beardies' guts, they don't break down much at all should they get ingested. Bran or cellulose (like Bed-a-beast or recycled paper pellets) are safer choices if you want a substrate they can burrow down into. Reptile carpeting, newspaper or paper towels are nice safe choices for beardies who don't have a need to dig little wallows every night before sleeping.

You do have to "hem" most carpeting by folding all the edges underneath and sewing or using silicone aquarium sealant or a non-toxic glue to prevent your dragons from eating frayed threads and tufts of plastic grass.

All I can say is WHEAT BRAN. AMAZING! They love it and it doesn't matter if they get a bit with there food. You can buy a huge bag at a bulk food store for cheap or get it from feed store, but you might have to freeze it first because there could be bugs in it. Bulkstore is the best way.

Try it out.... I know tons of people that use it and have NO compliments.

I used a product called Eco-Earth, Its Coconut Fibres and Comes in brick big enough to cover a 30 gallon tank.

PLUS...it is kind of like kitty litter.... Poop & Scoop...it clumps. Once a month or so you can completely change the WHEAT BRAN.
