View Full Version : First King getting ready to be Added to the Collection
I will be bringing my first King Snake home. It will be a few weeks, so I was wanting to know what sort of enclosure I will need. I have heard they love to escape. Its approx 7 months old, take or give a few months. Any advice is welcome.

how big?
the best kind of vivarium is the wooden type with two sliding doors, as these can have a lock fitted

theres one on here.
they are good because they do not stress the snake from being over exsposed, and you dont really need a lock as long as you shut the doors properly, but will be safer.
if the snake is to small it will need a smaller tank then it would if it was fully grown (as it will feel to exsposed), but the general rule is 1 square foot for every foot of snake and 1 third of the snakes length high (or bigger) so a 4' snake needs a 4' squared floor space and 1 and a bit feet high viv. my adult cal king is in a 3' X 1 1/2' viv and hes happy;)

I use a 30 gallon aquarium with a locking top. If there is concern about a possible escape a couple of moderately heavy books on the top is a good TEMPORARY solution. Look around, there are any number of products on the market that will suit your needs. The above link is certainly a good option.
Best of luck...
Sorry, its a Lavendar King. I am helping a friend out, she no longer can take care of it. Its approx 15" long. Thanks

just to let you know, if it is a cal king, by 7 months it could be a lot larger then 15" so feed it up:D i'd try a meal every 4-5 days;)
