View Full Version : I got a Beardie today!!
He/she is so cool! He downed 6 pinheads straight away, went and basked for a while and then back down to chow on some collard green! What a hoot!
I think he thinks he's in heaven... hopefully I'll get some better pics soon.

I need some ideas for names. It's really hard when you don't know what the sex is.

What a darling! I simply love beardies! I'm hoping to get one too...so that makes me very jealous right now! :) Congrats. I can't help you out with names, sorry. I'm really bad at it too. :)
Here's a link with lots of great beardie names:

Jaylyn
how about Snuzz? that's what I'm naming my 3rd animal whatever it's gonna be! :)
Thanks for the link, Jaylyn. It was helpful but I still can't decide on a name. Everyone keeps asking - "Did you name him yet?!?". Arrrgh. I'm usually really good at it but this is a tough one.
"Snuzz" ??? LOL! You keep it man! :)
LOL... no worries Corr I undeerstand how hard it can be to find a name. I still have a Jamaican Boa, 3 leopard geckos, 1 tortoise, and an RTB that are unamed...lol!
You haven't named your Red-foot yet?!?!? Oh no!
How about cutie pie? :D

Hi B22. Actually, it is Home Depot playsand! It's made by Southdown and it's very fine. The only problem is, it's not available to us in Canada. I had to buy it from someone who got it in the states. I bought three bags and have two left. Any idea how often I'll need to completely change it?

Well, his/her name is officially Dinkum. It's Aussie slang which loosely means "very good". :D
B22, is Southdown sand the one you're talking about from Home Depot?
Home Depot uses different kinds of everything depending on the region. The brand of sand they use where you live is probably different from the brand of sane they use where I live. Same goes for just about everything they sell. Important thing is to strain it through a colander or screen or something similar.
aww man now i'm jelouse congrads!!!!!what a lucky catch
its a little cutie! could wait a bit to name him or her till you visually sex her.
Congrats on your dragon!

I once had an american who wanted me to sell him a cage as well as throw in some moose antlers. I didn't know what to say to him. The crazy thing was that he was serious.
Greg.

Corr I would reccomend using paper towel or news paper until it gets a little bigger. Inpaction is A big thing when they're little!
When they get bigger its not really a big deal!
Nice beardie how old?
BIG SCOTT

Your lucky you got him to eat vegies so fast, mine wouldn't eat anything that wasn't alive until he was atleast 6 months old!
I appreciate your concern, Sean. He's on Southdown playsand (not silica). It's VERY fine and I sifted it also. The pet store told me he was six weeks old and I got him three weeks ago so I guess he's nine weeks old. I measured him the other day at 8 inches. Does that sound about right? You see, I saw some beardies at another pet store and they had their hatch date at a month earlier but they were barely 5 inches! Do you think that it could be a lack of nutrition or one of the dates is wrong?
Scott, he seems to like ridicio and apple. He turns his nose up at anything else so far. I guess I shouldn't be concerned then if yours didn't eat greens for six months, eh? The beardie book says that in the wild their diet is 50/50 greens and live food when young and about 75/25 as adults. How much greens does yours eat now?
i was wondering if Desert Blend is ok for the beardies. It's not sand but instead very finely ground walnut (not walnut shells)

Try your beardie on bock choi (bad spelling! sorry!) my beardies LOVE it! Then again I've never had a problems with greens with my beardies well once but other than that they eat everything in site! Also try hibiscus mine LOVE it!
Jotun I've never seen this walnut stuff before but it doesnt sound too good! Id stick to the good old sand!
Just my oppinion!
Sean.E.
This pic was taken on the 12th. He's grown 3 inches since we got him!
