Hey my Leo Gecko was starting to shed again so I left him alone to do his business. I noticed he got the top part of the skin off but the rest of his body still has it. At first I thought maybe it was too dry for him so I made his environment more moist as possible to keep him happy. It has been about 3 days and he refuses to remove the rest of his old skin off. I really cant help him because he is a baby gecko and he is very jumpy after I hold him for like 5 mins. Should I just pick him up and remove it for him or would it be best if I visit my local Veterinarian and let him remove the rest of the skin? Any help possible is appreciated.
Bringing him to the vet will stress him out far more than if you remove it.
But first of all, take a smaller container and fill the bottom with moist shagnum moss or papertowel, and put the leo into it (you can just put the container on its side and shoo him into it - very little stress). Close the container (with air holes, of course) and put it somewhere warm so it gets real humid in there.
After a couple hours of being in the there the skin should be off. If not, you will need to remove it. Much of it should be easy to gently pull it off... if he has some left on his toes, you will need to remove it so his toes dont fall off. Put him a table and put your hand on him (dont crush him, but so he cant run away) and with your other hand pull the shed off (gently!) with tweezers.
And then make sure to provide him with a humid hide (margarine-type container with moist sphag. moss or paper towel) in the future to help his sheds!
