Shedding inquiry

Just out of curiosity, anyone that owns a baby burm, or maybe any baby snake for that reason, have you ever noticed that when they start to shed, the rub there face on the ground. I noticed it one time after my snake just ate and i thought something was wrong, but realized about an out later the shed started off his head. I am bringing this up because i just saw my other burm do the same thing, and he is about to shed. Is this normal? Has anyone ever noticed this with there snakes? Just curious because i never actually watch them shed.

New to this site, so Hello to everyone. That is normal when they are shedding. Some rub on the floor,walls, objects in the enclosure. Anything to get the thing going. I enjoy watching them shed when lucky enough to be around when they are in the process.

ditto bebo, watching them is pretty neat. The first time my corn shed in my care was while i was holding her. I was freaked out cos she was acting all stiff and rubbing on my hands, but when the skin started to come off it was fascinating. So yeah, they rub against pretty much anything.

I have been keeping snakes for a while. When i asked if it was normal, it was almost a redundant statement. The reason for the thread start was to comment on how amusing it is to watch them. Like i said, i have never really watched them start shedding.

Yah, it freaked me out at first, the first time i saw it my burm ate a mouse backwards and he started to do it. It was a coincidence but i was like "What the hell." but i quickly realized what was going on.

If you keep a eye on your snakes you should see their eyes fog over and know they're going to shed within the next week or so. To my knowledge you don't want to feed them until it's over...

So unless I'm wrong, why were you feeding him during this time? =)

I was really amazed when my Bull shed for the first time. I noticed her rubbing up against the GLASS of her Viv of all surfaces....God she's stupid. She did manage to get it started although she's got numberous rough objects in her viv, NO! Mine uses her glass doors.

I noticed her shedding & grabbed my Video camera to film it....The battery was dead! Plugged it into the mains....Run ut of tape!!! No spare tapes. I say my Bull is stupid, She's just a chip off the old block. Oh well, there's always next shed.

I agree with you that its not the best idea, but i have always fed them whether they were shedding or not, i keep them on a schedule for the most part. I have never had a problem especially one of the main reasons people say that you you shouldnt feed when they are shedding is because vision is impaired by the skin covering the eye, and since i feed prekilled there is no hazard to the snake.

But i do see where you're coming from.
