Thanks for sharing all the Pictures Robert. Is that vermiculite in pretty much all the enclosures? I could see where it was shiny is a couple of pics, so assumed it must be vermiculite. Would you share your view of using that as a substrate. What are the pros and cons from your experience.
Any situations you don't like to use it?
Thanks much.

Brian,
I use 100% vermiculite for ALL my tarantulas. I've used peat mosse and spagnum mosse in the past but I was either getting problems with fruit flies and/or mold growing from dead crickets that had hidden themselves in the spagnum mosse. I also didn't like using the spagnum as it gave the crickets too many hidding spots. That's another reason I like keeping my tanks as empty as possible. I have NEVER had problemes with vermiculite so I see no reasons to change. It might not be as attractive as peat but I find it does the job a hell of alot better.
I don't want to hog this forum so I will wait and post more pictures another day.

Thanks for the info Robert. I'm just getting ready to move those Usambaras, so I'm going to follow your lead and try Vermiculite. I always have some around.
Please keep the pictures coming. How about a close up of one of your divided tanks showing the lid? I'm planning similar, but worry one Tarantula will squeeze through the space at the opening, and visit his neighbor!
