I have had a skunk gecko for a month and a half. He wont eat wax worms, meal worms, giant meal worms, super worms, crickets, or freeze dried crickets. He will eat baby food from an eye dropper. WTF!?!?!?!?!!?

What should I do? I can't keep hand feeding him. He needs to learn to eat on his own.

I assume that a skunk gecko is a white line, is that correct?

If so, they are partial frugivores. Yours may be having some difficulty acclimating. If thats all it will eat, I suggest customizing some baby food or make your own so your gecko will receive more complete nutrition.

I usually add some turkey puree to my gecko food to provide a source of protein. Also, make sure a little vitamin or mineral supplement is added to fill any nutrional gaps. If your gecko is taking it from a dropper, you can probably leave some in a small dish in the cage instead of having to hand feed every day.

In time, the gecko will likely accept prey items. You may also want to inspect the inside of it's mouth to make sure there isn't some injury or infection that is causing this.

thanks for the response. Yes he is a white line gecko. The turkey puree is not a bad idea. I was thinking of crushing up meal worms, or crickets, but turkey puree sounds alot easir to mix in. I will also start mixing in a calcium supplement.

His mouth looks OK to me. He will usually yawn while I have him out to feed him, and I havent noticed anything out of the ordinary, or anything that would lead me to believe he has some sort of infection or injury in his mouth.

Thanks again for the advice.

P.S. Do you also know if Golden Gecko's prefer fruit items? My golden doesnt appear to really like the worms or crickets either.

Yes, goldens will take fruit as well. The two specie's ranges even overlap in places and intergrades between the two are common. The hybrid usually ends up smaller than the white line, but more attractive than the golden. The dorsal stripe normally lacks the definition and black borders of a true white line, while the ground coloration is closer to that of the golden.

My Golden Gecko will eat baby food, chopped fruit or crickets.

When we move him cage, or take him out (which we dont unless we have too) he refuses to eat live prey for awhile. And before I got him, he ate nothing but baby food for a year or so because the person kept handling him and he wouldn't eat crickets.

Anyways good luck! If you don't disturb him and especially do not handle him for any reason for a few weeks it will help.
