To everyone who knows me, you all know I spend a whole lot of time in the chat rooms. And I don't post nearly as often as I used to. But that is simply because its a little rough looking at all those great herps and not being to able to have any at this point in time.
Chat night was a super big success! And to keep with the chat rooms success (we want more people in it, not less!) I've got a few ideas. More or less things other chat rooms that have been around a while have. Granted some things may not be doable on this server. But to anyone else list your ideas, or thoughts on mine, and maybe some can implemented.
1) a definte set of rules. Alot of sites in the top list a website where you can see the rules clearly spelled out. Or they have a bot, that greats people and askes them to check out that web site. and alot even have a function that you type !rules, and the bot them PMS the person the rules.
2) as the site has gone on alot of rules have changed, been added etc. which is one more reason for the list, they can be added, then using one of the above methods everyone entering can see rules have been altered and check out the new ones.
3) all too often there is only on or 2 mods in the channel, and both are just lurking, so when a mod is needed one really isn;t there.
4) I don;t think the mods need us to tell them the rules for their chat room, but I also don;t see any reason why as the main users of that chat should not be able to find a specific list of rules that ALL memebers are asked to follow. The forums have their own, but the mediums are so diffrent that diffrent rules are needed.
Any other thoughts?
I like all those ideas pretty much myself except number 3. The Mods aren't paid to be here, they are doing it out of being kind. A mod can't possible be in the chatroom 24 hours a day. My good friend ran a very sucessful chat server in the late 90's and it was nearly impossible to have someone moniter the room 24/7.

Good ideas man :) I agree 100%.
Its nice to see more people showing interest in the chat. Its been there for a long time and we have quite a few regulars and it seems that more and more people are joining us. Jay, i agree with you on your thoughts but my thoughts are different on the mod situation. In all honesty, we shouldn't even need channel ops. I understand non site members come in from time to time and like stir the pot with people, but aside from that, we really haven't been busy in the way of moderating the channel. I think 6 channel operators in a room of 30 at most, is more then enough. There are always going to be times when an operator isn't available, but most of us are just a 'quack' away. sometimes anyway ;) LOL. I like the ideas though!!
Okay, I know this may sound rough comin' from me ( like a pile of crap ) but we DO need to enforce rules that have no shift in 'em. Like... there shouldn't be exceptions or limitations for someone for doin' somethings... every one has to follow the SAME set of rules and no matter who the hell you might be, with what ever the hell BIG name in reptiles... the rules will be rules and WILL be followed. I know, sounds weird coming from the kind who stirs things the most... but still...

thanks Matt, but who are the 6? You, BJ, Shane?...realisticly that BJ, and maybe you lol. my whole point is basicly, to enforce rules, they should be posted, and to post rules, they should also be enforced. :) Thankfully like you say there usually isn;t much in the way of problems. But I;d still like to know who the other Mods are...and please don;t count someone that spends an hour or 2 a week in the chat... I love Shane to, and understand why hes not that lol, but we can;t count him as a mod!

I think chat is great the way it is, nothing really ever gets out of hand, and while all mods can't be there 24/7, there's usually SOMEONE around....and they do a great job :) (sucks up some more)

I don't know the "rules" myself so I am curious.

LOL, Shane, Me, Daan, Beejay, Melly and Andreas. And Megs during the week is a mod. The only rules to the chat basically are to keep the subject clean. After 9 we are more leanient to that rule. I understand that sometimes it gets outta hand, but no one seems to be complaining about any of it, otherwise i think the ops would enforce it more. Anyway, enough of posting here for me, lets talk about it in chat :D

Yes that is the ban command used on Bryce after he apoligized for an honest mistake.

Now I am not laying blame to Shane, BJ, or anyone else listed here. all I am saying is that the rules posted would prevent it from the future. Yes those were taken in bits and pieces, but I don;t feel it alters the context, anyone who wants the whole log is more than welcome to it. Just trying to save some space yet get my point across.
PS and yes Bryce was unbanned an hour later.

figured out why and fixed, this post no longer needed!
The posting of Links in the chat is one thing, but its the content of the links. I believe it was about 2 weeks ago that Shane woke up in the morning to see that the person in question here had posted about 40 links and they were all to different Knives. He also wrote about 40 lines of one letter. So he was Banned by Shane. I too have nothing against Bryce, he seems like a really cool guy and i talk to him in chat when we're in there at the same time. I also tried to help him get unbanned. But for Shane to wake up in the morning and see that, i can see why he acted and took the actions that he did. Also, For Beejay to ban him today, i can understand, she was instructed to do so by Shane, so she was just doing what she was told (i know that doesnt sound nice, but you know what i mean). Wait, i'll change told to 'Asked'..
:D I understand why it's hard to understand the reason I banned Bryce, but in all honesty, he had been warned. And he even confirmed that with me in a private chat. If he made a mistake, then he made a mistake, but I still felt I had to ban him temporarily. Maybe he will be more careful now. I know I've accidentally done the same thing and been warned or kicked. Heck, the channel itself has kicked me for flooding! Also, Jay, I wholeheartedly agree with the need for a simple list of rules that can be amended as needed, and a link to those rules as a welcome message.

Matt, thts kewl and all, but an honest mistake is an honest mistake. he was not intending to post to that window...i do stuff like that all time....ooops wrong window :) and flooding is flooding, no matter what the content.
BJ, thanks, and like I've said, previously, i'm not saying anyone was wrong or right, not my place. this simply about posting the rules. You did what you were asked, and did what you felt needed doing.

Cool guns and Knives, Thanks for the pics.
I personally do not think we need any additional rules, or mods, furthermore, I do not think more people is always better.
What I would like to see is one night a week question and answer period with a expert on a particukular subject.
In closing I think the amount of mods is fine, and they are doing a great job.

One I posted those pics because people on the chat WANTED to see them if i did it privately it would have taken 4 X as long. If people on the chat ask me to stop I will oblidge but if people want to see the pictures I dont see a problem. But I guess I am not a mod on there soI am INSTANTLY wrong and as for the scrolling letters it was "is anyone here" scrolling downwards I belive I cant rember though exactly because it was late I did because people are Constantly lurking on chat I and I wanted to see if anyone was actually around and it was like 4am So I wasnt at my smartest

wow Mike, why'd you leave the rest out man??? You left out the part where i said clearly that i was JOKING. If people swear after 9, its not a big deal, but i do believe that if there are minors in the chat, there should be a little respect given..
