If that's the case and he literally discards the unwanted LIVE reptiles into the freezer, he's either getting a kick in the ba...erm...I'm going to hurt him or I'll be taking alot of animals home.

But don't worry guys, there will NEVER be a live reptile put into the freezer on my watch. As long as i work there, rest assured that those animals will all be put into homes and also that their owners will be at least somewhat educated on proper care and will also be directed to places where they can get extensive caresheets.

I was actually thinking of printing out caresheets for all the herps we have at the store. And everytime someone is considering purchasing one, handing it to them. I think the boss would be pissed because I'm supposed to sell them books. But I end up telling them everything they need to know. Like a girl and father who wanted the baby ball python, I talked to them for two hours about care and temperament and feeding, etc. hehehe

Thats sad... Hope you catch them before they do that so you can give them a good home. Good for you for educating people about the species. :D We don't need more reptiles dying because of uneducated owners. I think the caresheet idea is great! Good work, and keep it up. :p

that is so horrible. can't you report him to someone or something? It's hard enough for me to keep frozen rats in my freezer. I could not imagine actually putting a live reptile in my freezer to die.

Education is the key man, there are far too many ignorant people out there when it comes to reptiles. Don't let your pet store become a Pet-Co I have actually gone in there to purchase feeder fish and talked people out of buying reptiles there.
I doubt it is legal to stick cb and for sle reptiles in your freezer when they don't sell so maybe you should consider reporting him or something.JMO..................Scott Wahlberg

In the pet store I work at, I have already created care sheets for most of our animals. This has been compiled into a training manual, so any new employee has to pass a test to work there. I think it should work out great. You should talk to your boss about doing something like that Jenn. They might be more than willing. In the long run, it's more money for the store if the people buying the animals know what they are getting into. No replacements due to sick animals being purchased. No buy-backs because the animal just didn't work out. And educated people selling them and hopfully passing on their knowledge to the customers. A living animal has to keep eating and needs its light replaced, and a happy customer should always come back!

Way to go Jenn! We certainly need more like you working in the pet stores. Love for exotics should go hand in hand with working in any place that sells or displays them. There's no money to be made if everything ends up in a freezer or dead at the hands of an inexperienced keeper. The care sheet idea is very good.

yes i am pretty shure it is illegal to kill an anamal just because you cant sell them, uless it is uthinized properly, if they can prove that they killed the anamal in a humane fashon you got nothing on them. and yes it is true that some people open pet stores to make money but there is a pet store by my house called petland they are a bit excpensive but i talked to an employee there and they MUST clean all cages EVERY DAY! and personly i would rather pay the extra 10 bux and buy from a store that has very strict pollocy on haveing clean cages

Mike, no pet store is suited, or allowed to "kill" an animal..... Iam positive you need some kind of papers allowing you to humanly kill an animal.... Pet stores HAVE to send animals to the vet if they feel its going to die..... You may say "no they dont, because theres always dying animals at stores!" thats because the SPCA is to busy and understaffed to be bothered going to every store to look for dying lizards.. Call about a puppy they'l be there pronto.

But as far as having nothing on a store if they can prove the animal was killed humanely just isnt true.

The old pet store I used to work at that doesn't exsist in this city anymor Pet Paradise. I was in the rodent room and I had to clean cages every day and make sure everything was healthy and had fresh water and enough food.

This was when I was young. I remember one time, leaving a bit of parrot poop on the parrots water dish but I put it back in anyways and the manager glared at me, picked up the bowl and said, "Would YOU drink from this? Treat each of these animals as if they were you, if you wouldn't drink from the water dish, eat from the food bowl or sleep on the bedding, then neither should they!" And to this day I think that was the best advice any manager has EVER given me on pet care.

Animals gettin' tossed into freezers happens a LOT, and in places where you wouldn't expect. People sometimes care only for the money, rather then the animals. Some people jus' dont care. Its the unfortunate and theres NOT much we can do because theres always ignorance in this world.

I am very happy that there isnt going to be an innocent animal killed causs some guy doesnt wanna spend the money to keep them in the store. Im also happy that he said that to someone like you so you could stop it from happening. I would be the crap out of that guy if he said that to me!

I wish I could come over to your pet store. I'd kick him in Bo*(***! Just because he was there...& I'd put him in the freezer, just because he's too big. You could actually make a fortune out of the left over herps from the store. when you go back to work, Kick him for me...Oh, & send any left-over, too big ball Python too me. :)

HAHAHA I should start selling our animals online! lmao Everyone keeps saying, "Send them my way"!

Let's see we have a baby ball python, 6 cornsnakes, 5 baby chams, a young carpet python, three baby savs, one young nile, three baby green iguanas, two amevias, one sickly looking leo, two chinese water dragons, one ocelot gecko, one salamander and a huge toad! lmao Some of these animals are ridiculously over priced though.
