View Full Version : Male Leo?
I just bought a leo and I think he's too young to sex. But I read that if a male leo is approached by another leo, it will rapidly shake it's tail and if the other shakes back then it is also a male. Well today my leo was going after a cricket and I noticed he was shaking his tail just like described. Does this mean it's a male, or is likely to be a male?

no, it doesn't mean it's male. all leo's, male and female, shake their tails while stalking prey. it's one of the things that make them so darn cute! they kind of remind me of cats.
how big and old is your leo?
my female always shakes it's tail when it sees a cricket, she just gets so darn excited i guess...so it could still be either!

you can tale if it is a male if it has vents (little dots in the shape of a v) on the bottom underside
and 2 bulges at the base of the tail.. males USUALLY have lighter colors cause of temperature sex and all that stuff. and they'll drag their bellies when they're older and have broader necks and tails.. also leos will vibrate their tails when shedding

The "v" shape will be of darker pores than the female's. The female's "v" shape is the same colour of her belly skin. The male's will have some darker colours in it. But some leopard geckos will only show their signs at a much later age. one of our males got the darker v when he was almost 2 years old.
I actually just got 2 leos... both the same age but the "male" is bigger and has duller colors.
I think they're about a month or 2... far too young to be able to sex them right? I heard it was something like 8 - 10 months? I know how to sex them... or at least I think I know.

a month or two is a little young....but i'd say just give it another month or two and u should be able to tell. u can tell way before 8-10 months. i've never had a male baby that i couldn't tell by a few months of age. and every suspected female has remained female after a few years of age. u will start to see obvious bulges within a couple of months at the latest, depending on how big they are for their age and how fast they grow. :)
i think most breeders would tell u they are hard to sex until 3 months of age.
Sounds good :) I'll be checking
He definitely looks like a male... btw his nexk is thicker than the other one's...
I really hope it is a male because I want to breed them.
