View Full Version : color changes
ok so leos turn grayish before a shed.. but what about turning dark.. i notice one of my geckos turns kinda dark after eating a lot maybe? is this normal like just blood flowing to digest? he's very healthy. nice and fat, kinda lazy but leos are lazy. i just think its kinda weird.. the turning dark.. it's not one spot its like his whole body..

I think it's normal one of my girls does that too. Although now she is almost always dark now, I think it's her color now.

What phase of leo is the one that turns dark? I know that sometimes my blizzards and patternless change from light to dark depending on the light and their mood:D None of my others do though.

i have a normal phase female leopard and it sometimes does the same thing...i usually see it if i pick up her hide after not seeing her for a day or two. I think its when they sleep a lot or something but my leo seems fine so i dont think you need to worry:)
Funny that this thread is here now, I just noticed one of my girls today was darker than usual. It looks like she's going to shed soon, I'm guessing that's the reason why but I haven't noticed it before. She's a high yellow.

Perhaps geckos have the ability to turn darker when they want to attract and keep more heat to their bodies? (Many basking diurnal lizards do this)... I wouldn't think much of it, I agree that Blizzards and Paternless seem quite prone to color changes! =)

I totally agree with Samba. I had a couple very dark hatchlings and then I noticed the heat tape wasn't up to the rubbermaid like the other bins. I fixed it and brought the temp up from about 80 to 90 and then they lightened up rather quickly and look great. One also regured once so I think it was the temps. Just a thought though, not 100% sure that was it but they are doing great now, growing fast and eating a lot more, and a lot brighter. :)
