i caught this guy a while back, i saw someone else post some monster snapper pics, and i wanted to share mine. this guy was really mean and wanted to kill me! no surprise. he weighed in at around a measly 30 lb.!

true, but can anyone tell me what the heck that "tongue" thing coming out of the anus is? is it like a musk organ or..... i have no clue, i would like to know, everyone was asking me what it was.

You know this could be a female. There was a colloc on turtles not long ago near my place. And the biologists said that some female turtles have clitoris that can be as long as our little finger!

Nice turtle. :p I think it IS female, as the vent (is it vent in turtles?) is closer to the body than to the end of the tail. You just went out and caught him wild? Its a big one.

It is very common, especially with snapping turtles, to evert when they get excited. If you had a male there, you would definately know. They have enormous organs, and thus large visible bulges in the tail.....

That surely is a good sized girl!

thanks, i saw an even bigger one at a pond near the one i caught her at i really want to catch him, it looked at least 35-40.

Great catch. I happen to be a big snapper fan. I've caught a 10" specimen before, and I do wish I was wearing gloves. It's not the bite that I was afraid of, because I was holding it properly, but I those claws were really a pain.

Once you get those things up, they try to scratch, too
