Starter Frog/toad?

I was wondering if there were any good starter frogs/toads out there. One that is slow moving, and requires little space (about 10-20 gal)....I'm not planning on getting one anytime soon. But I would rather reasearch for years before getting one than jumping in head first and getting one of the hardest frogs/toads to get....and not knowing it! Thanks in advance for your help!

I prefer tree-frogs to toads or ground dwelling frogs. I keep Greens, Greys, and White's. Green Tree-Frogs are extremely common in the southern U.S. also being inexpensive and easy to care for. Gray or Cope's Tree-Frogs are also as common and easy to care for. White's are from Australia via South America. Also very easy to care for and reach a size twice that of greys or greens. My 2 cents. Worth less than 2 cents. =P

I've kept ground dwellering, tree dwelling, aquatic, and semi. and from all the speicies I've kept, the Fire Belly Toads are the easiest. I've even got them breeding for me, without trying to!

i am with the white's tree frog's i have a few and they are pretty easy to care for but if you intend to have more then just one i would think about something bigger then a 10-20 gal

I'd also have to say Fire Belly Toads. We've got 3 of these guys, they're really playful, and fun to watch...and the set up for them can be fairly cheap and easy.

Depends on what you like. Whites are cool lookin' frogs, get bulky and like I said, they are really cute and hardy :) Green Tree Frogs are really agile, sleek and cool lookin' frogs as well. Thing is about these guys is that they are nocturnal. WHich means they sleep in the day. Firebelly toads are really cool lookin', active, funny, and hardy. These guys are active most of the time :) Pacman frogs are huge beasts. They chill on the ground , ussually buried. They are cute as babies but as they grow, they become fatter and fatter. Sometimes you wont see your pacman for months becuase it'll be sleepin' under substrate. Those are really cool start frogs. I would presoanlly go for the Whites Tree Frog only becuase I've kept 'em. I also have Green Tree Frogs and they too are neat. You'll notice that this becomes and addiction. And you'll find your self getting more and more unique animals :D

Ok can some of you point me in the direction of care sheets for these frogs/toads that you've mentioned....also slow moving frogs would be best. I have a cat that likes to wander around and am afraid that anything to quick, such as a fire bellied toad might jump to it's death........I used to have a whites tree frog and a fire bellied toad together in the same tank (before I knew better! I know better now!!!) and the whites tree frog actually came down and sat on the fire bellied toad and drowned it!!!!!! But I was only looking for 1 amphibian, so a 10-20 gal tank would be enough....thank you for all your opinions!!!!

Keep a lid on the tank, and place it somewhere where the cat cant get it ( I know, kinda tricky ) My dogs used to alway bug my eastern box turtles in their pens outside ( I have two weiner dogs ) and well, I gave my dogs a good soakin' once, they came back again to the pen and i soaked 'em with freezing cold water. Never came back :) Have like a spray bottle near the tank and spray the cat to scare it off. It'll learn not to go around.

see I am in one room all my animals are in one room so there is no where to put them, and ovbiously I'm going to have a lid on the cage. Believe me, that don't stop her, and a spray bottle don't stop her either.....

If the spray bottle isn't enough there are many good (& high-powered) water guns out there. Some small ice cubes & they'll stay cold also. Just a training tip that is harmless except to carpets & rugs !! Worked for me.....my cats don't even bother the hamster or chinchilla anymore.

Believe me, this is one stubborn cat. I've tried everything from almost slush water to hot water, to throwing stuffed animals (dog toy) at her. She don't care, she just looks at me like I'm the stupidest thing she has ever seen......lol
