Ok, heres a couple of photos I took earlier today whilst changing its water bowl:

Was going to ask what size prey you guys think I should be feeding it? But I suppose its hard to gage the snakes size from the pics without some sort of marker - so I'll see what I can do later.

The blurriness of the second is because I've not got a very steady photographer hand lol, so you'll have to excuse the blurriness :D

I'll update with some more photos later when I have my handling session :D

This one should give an idea of girth compared to a UK penny:

If anyone has any feedback on the size of prey I should be feeding my corn, I'd much appreciate it ;)

My fiancee holding Angwi - he seemed to pose for the camera for this shot lol :D

if your corn is still on pinkies like you stated on another thread. I would slowly up the size of his/her prey. Maybe next offer 2 pinkies for a few feedings then try fuzzies and go from there.

Good luck and nice snake.

Feeding it a fuzzy to a hopper should be alright.

I'd be feeding that sized corn hoppers for sure. Maybe even 2 hoppers. Looks to still be a little small for an adult IMO...

Okeetee is a corn snake colour morph. Not sure if that is what that is though!

Gorgeous snakey, and yeah he probably could take hoppers by now!

Ah I see :)

As far as I'm aware he's just a normal common corn. I much preferred his colouring to the others that were on offer - mostly albinos, but I don't like them to much :)

I've got 9 'frozen' pinkys left, I think I'll feed him a couple of pinkys a week till they are used up. Or as someone else suggested, feed him every five days for a snake that size/age.

He's only a year old though.

Cheers peeps ;)

Hoppers?

i have been told hoppers are crickets....but then told they were mice...
err??

sorry if this sounds stupid!

Its ok! I thought the same thing at first, but I'm assuming they are large mice!? As in:

Pinky (baby mouse)
Fuzzy (baby/juvenile mouse with slight covering of hair)
Hopper (adult mouse)

Is that right?

:)

actually hoppers are only past the fuzzy stage, having their eyes open and being highly mobile(this probably lead to the name lol), next size would be juvenile then adult size. A hopper could sit on a quarter. I think rodent pro has a good chart with pictures and weights for each size. Most large feeder businesses sell the animals by grams, a fuzzy 5-7 grams, a hopper 9-10, juvi 15-18, an adult 20-25, a jumbo 35-45 grams. I doubt it is a standardized measurement but gives a good rule of thumb.

Hmm, my snake couln't eat a hopper yet surely? Could it!? Its body is only about 1cm wide - that's half the size of a UK penny which is 2cm (obviously!).

A hopper according to Rodent Pro is 1.5"-2" big! Is that not too big for my snake?

if he's a thick as you little finger (adult size finger lol) he's large enough for adult mice, mine are usually on adults by the time they are 21-22 inches long. Easiest is go get a small adult mouse, offer it to your snake, watch snake slurp down mouse(it does take longer and the snake will spit it out on it's own if it decides the prey is too large). You'll have sheds once a month till his size catches up, and don't expect very long to pass before he's searching for a second.

So, I think its agreed then - my snake should be eating larger prey?

chris your snake does need to be on larger prey but since he has only been given pinkies his whole life then you need to do a gradual step up. You don't want to just give him a small mouse if he's still on pinkies. try to slowly up his prey size and in a few months he will be eating like a champ and growing quite well.

I gave my corn.......which was just about that size Hoppers and he grew pretty quickly. He had a massive bulge though:)

I'd go with fuzzies.

this is WEIRD....

I asked for hoppers at my local reptile shop and they said it was crickets!
hmm.....?

Lizzy, I'm seeing a regional problem here lol

Most of the people on this forum, I think its fair to say, are American. As were in the UK, 'hoppers' in UK shops probably are crickets! I think we need to be more specific when we go ask for hoppers, fuzzies, pinkys etc. from UK shops :D

Hey i'm from the England (hertfordshire) and most of the reptile shops i go to know a hopper as a mouse, but any ways if you start feeding him hoppers you'll of missed out a size, go with fuzzys for now (or rat pups).
Also you said you only feed him a couple of pinkies a week, you should be feeding him at least 3 as soon as they hatch, imo he could be almost half size by know and i did think he looks a little small for an year old, i'd feed him 3 fuzzies a week at least,(you could try rat pinkies) from now on and only slow down to every 5-7 days when he starts taking small adult mice;)
So feed him up, as much as possible, as much as he can eat because its possible to get adult size by 2 years;)
ok, theres my 2p(lol)
If you look at the thread titled "stripe corn pic" the guy says his corn reached adult size (36") in ten months!!!!!!
you need to get feeding;)
